All this talk of us going to a BCS conference won't ever happen - even if they have no direct control over it, the BOT down the road will not allow that to happen.

I go to games to watch MY team play.
Besides, most people (outside the Big East, of course) are wondering how long they keep that AQ status.
Once they lose it (and they will), they'll be CUSA again in everything but name.

They have already lost with the new playoff system. They are lumped in with C-USA, sun belt, mwc, mac, and big east with the highest finishing team from these leagues getting a bid to a bcs bowl.

Not sure it's lateral yet. And even if it is, Memphis wouldn't be middle of the pack in basketball because they aren't middle of the pack in CUSA, right? I think most Memphis fans are ready for a change, even if it does prove to be less than what was expected at the time. CUSA has just gotten stale for me.

RE: NBR: More Conference Re-Alignment?
I am not sold that joining the BE is going to improve their lives in BB or FB. BE is no longer an AQ conference in FB, and to be honest with the potential loss of Rutgers (and the rumors of Cincy & Louis staying alive regarding the B12) I think we have to seriously question the sustainability of the BE in FB. I don't doubt Memphis's talent in BB. I don't like them, but I know they are good. But the big east is a pretty big step from CUSA BB over the past few years. I think Memphis is in for a rude awakening once they have to play a lot more high quality teams than what they would face in CUSA even if the others were staying.
The big winner on this is UAB, in BB (our conference schedule got a bit easier), and the teams moving up to CUSA. That being said, if UAB got the invite when UM got it, I would think we would take it too.

No one is talking about a BCS conference. Talking about the Big East, which is no longer a major conference. Memphis just made a lateral move. They'll suck in football there and be middle of the pack in basketball.
MB, some of your posts never cease to amaze me (wishful thinking?). If you really think the new CUSA will be on equal ground with the Big East you're more delusional and butthurt than I thought. TV contracts alone will be a major part of the seperation. And as far as us sucking in football, it must really p!ss you off to have your team have their @sses handed to them to the tune of 46-9 by this team that's gonna suck so bad. Don't know how you and the few other UAB fans feel about the future of ya'll's football program, but us Memphis fans with Fuente leading the way, we are actually excited about our future. And as far as Memphis being middle of the pack in basketball, well, now you're just showing your ignorance and butthurt from being left behind. Damn dude, I can expect such a dumb post from some butthurt UAB fans but not you, I always thought you were smarter than that. But hey, no need to argue, after our 2 basketball games Memphis and UAB will be a thing of the past. I wish you all well in your new CUSA. Peace.

I never said the Big East was equal to new CUSA. I've actually said Cusa is on the par with the Atlantic Sun now. However in terms of money distribution, under the new contract they are equal. TV contracts aren't going to be as great as you think. While the league might be better in basketball, overall, it's not as great as deal as Memphis fans think.
Memphis is great at recruiting players, but as much as I like Pastner, he hasn't shown that he can handle them. The only thing he can handle seems to be reporters laptops. Once they are in the Big East, I wish them the best, and may even support them a little, but knowing how Memphis fans handle losses, I see a lot of angst in the future.

MB, you and I have had our little back n forths for some time now, but honestly, you aight in my book. You and Smaug are some of my favorite posters. I actually feel for UAB and some (not all) of their fans. Your school is fighting a losing, uphill battle, being under the heavy arm of the BOT. Our schools times on the athletic fields and court is coming to an end, no need to pick at each other any longer. Memphis is going in a new direction, one that Tiger fans are excited about, and one that we hope is successful. As I said before, good luck to UAB in the new CUSA.....GO TIGERS

UTSA has had a better year than both UAB and Memphis... They are 7-4 and may actually get to a bowl game if there are not enough 6-6 teams...

RE: NBR: More Conference Re-Alignment?
Folks, as much as I dislike UAT and the BOT, I do not think they would block us from going to a BCS conference if such a thing ever came to be. I think they might stand in our way if it involved an invitation to the same BCS conference as them, but not otherwise.
I don't think even the BOT is stupid enough to block UAB (and therefore the system) from getting that kind of money.

RE: NBR: More Conference Re-Alignment?
If the basketball school ditched the Big East what do y'all think Memphis would do? I have a mind to say they should leave with the basketball schools and find another home for football. To Memphis fans the move may be about basketball, but lets be honest, its always about football and money. The days of conferences being aligned on academics, or any other sports are coming to an end.
