The parasites have killed off the Hostess.

This is a major victory for the union workers. They can high five each other all the way to the unemployment line.

Who is John Galt?

Looks like I will be stocking up on more fattening food this weekend. Twinkies, Sno Balls, cupcakes, Ho Hos....please enter my shopping cart!
Maybe, maybe not. They said whoever(if anyone) buys Twinkies in bankruptcy, has the option of making Twinkies(I assume the same if for the other cakes).

Maybe Obama will deem Hostess "too big to fail" and bail them out. Then Hostess will become a "zombie company".

Anyone who has seen "Zombieland" would appreciate the irony of that.

I do love Snowballs though, not as much as twinkies but they are tasty. Somebody will buy them out of bankruptcy or maybe the Union will buy the business and become owner/employees. It's happened before.
That is what I was thinking.

A sign that the economy is in great shape. Either that, or Americans are completely whacko.

First, they came for the Twinkees, and I said nothing, because I did not eat Twinkees.

I am not disagreeing with you. Poorly run but striking was certain doom. by not working, they killed to companies chances. So what did they get out of it. Unemployment checks. No one will open in same locations unless they buy equipment cheap plus cheaper labor. Most likely, another bakery will buy the name and recipe and bake them in their current bakeries.

The workers had already agreed to concessions twice before. How much are they expected to give? If there was no strike, and Hostess had just laid off 18k, the righty's would have no problem with it. If they had gone out of business without a strike, then righty's would say fine, let the business fail so a stronger one could take its place - and in this case they'd be right! Really, who buys twinkies anymore? I'm sorry but this can't be helped. You can't keep reducing workers' pay in order to continue making a product nobody wants anymore. You have to be innovative and come up with new products. Hostess wasn't, and they failed. So stop the fake outrage over striking unions.

Or, just keep the products and ship the manufacturing to China like everything else. Product costs would go down, the company could lower prices to the public, and still make a huge profit. Everyone is happy - except, of course, the 18K who lost their jobs. But, hey, it's the (new) American way! 04-rock

RE: No more Twinkees
Last I heard, Hostess is privately held.
"Management" can do whatever it wants to do....
And that includes run the company into the ground if it wants to....
The union does not own the company.
If they want, buy the companny and then they too can do whatever they want to do...

RE: No more Twinkees
Haven't found a Twinkie substitute yet but for those of you who love HoHo's; Dollar Tree (love this store) stocks an American mfg who supplies them with their own version of HoHo's, Sticky Buns and the Kelloggs Nutra Grain Bars. Best of all only a $1 for any of them. Nutrigrain bars are in a 6 pack and pretty decent plus a heck of alot cheaper than Kelloggs. 02-13-banana
