MyBB UAB BB game?
We're thinking about going this year. What would be a good place to stay for the night. Any suggestions on a hotel close to the arena? Tickets are not on sale yet. Will they have visitors section? Went 2 years ago with rebounders, had a blast. Anyone else planning on going? It's an easy road trip. Still deciding between UAB or UT.

I'd suggest buying tickets as soon as they become available. Assume their fans will try to buy as many as possible to keep Memphis fans away. Not to mention it will be most likely our last visit to Bartow, so they'll be desperate for a win.

I'd pick UT. I hope to go up there in Jan.

My only suggestion is do not stay out by Birmingham-Southern. The area is rough.

I bet Neillis could give you some good suggestions.

Go to UT. I'm going to UT with some folks and TBA is going to be insane that night!

I'm thinking about trying to go to UAB also, so i wouldn't blame you for going there.

If you go to UAB, the Arena is in the middle of the downtown campus, so there isn't really any hotels within, say, a 2-3 block radius. None that I remember at least.

There is a Courtyard Marriott and a Residence Inn that are both within a mile of the arena and are both probably $125 or less per night. The Residence Inn i've stayed at and it was clean and a pretty good spot.

I think I am going to the UAB game. I went a couple years ago for a football game there and had a blast in Birmingham. I actually went with low expectations of the city but it was awesome. I also went to the UT game two years ago and hated Knoxville.

I stayed at the Courtyard this past weekend. It's in the medical district and is about 7 blocks from Bartow. Cost me about $130 for a Saturday night.

RE: UAB BB game?
The closest and only walkable hotels are the Doubletree and Courtyard by Marriott UAB. Both are nice but nothing to do around the hotel pre or post game if that is a priority.

I would also recommend the Hotel Highland in 5 points (older, but cheaper) or the Aloft in Homewood (more modern and nice and in a great area, but about a 15 minute drive).

If you want to shop, I would stay at Courtyard by Marriott in Homewood across from the Brookwood Mall. It also provides access to Hwy 280 and The Summit which is a nicer version of Collierville's Carriage Crossings.

There is also a hotel called the Tutwiler near downtown which is like a little Peabody. Neat place to stay, but nothing to do near the hotel.

Wynfrey Hotel is about a 25 minute drive and the Galleria is not that great.

I forgot about the Residence Inn. It's across the street from the Doubletree. Both of these are down the street from 5 Points, but it's quite an uphill hike!

Don't do the Wynfrey. Way overrated. There is a Residence Inn and Doubletree 6 blocks from the arena. Also the Hotel Highland at 5 Points South is a nice hotel and close to the arena. And there is a Courtyard Marriott near UAB Hospital that is relatively new and very nice.

I could go to either game -- both are relatively easy drives from Chattanooga. It just depends on handicapped seating options/availability.

We've stayed at the Hotel Higland and it is very nice. Easy walking distance to great resturants too!

I stayed at the Highland when it was still the Pickwick. That would be my vote simply because there are so many bars and restaurants within walking distance.

I bet Neillis could give you some good suggestions.

I wouldn't stay anywhere west of 65 or north of 20/59.

Most Tigers fans stay out in Inverness (down 280). I would suggest something around the 459 (Hoover) loop, around the Summit (closer than Inverness down 280), or one of the hospital hotels (somewhere like Residence Inn on 20th and University) for sake of ease.

If I were staying in Birmingham for a night, I would stay in the Hampton Inn in Mountain Brook (http://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotels/...dex.html), and then eat breakfast at Over Easy on my way out the next morning.

If anyone stays in Homewood I can meet y'all somewhere before or after. I live about 10-12 minutes away from UAB in H'wood.
