I couldn't let my Dad lose his job because of my inability to run an offense. Especially, if I knew that I wasn't cutting it, and it could very well be my father's last job.

If I was Aaron Price, I would've stepped down last season, or even before that.

Mikey Precios is done at UTEP. Nothing Aaron can do at this point to save his father, it is over. Time to party like it's 1999!

There is no reason why another coach can't come in here and win immediately. Gary Nord did it and so did Mike Price.

I just don't want the usual fans to start talking that nonsense that we should keep Price because that is the best coach we are ever going to get.

That sort of talk has given us at least 3 losing seasons.

I have not seen any poster on any board ask for Price to stay.

You say NO to a (as you say) re-tread, yet an unproven coach doesn't necessarily mean a winning coach. It is an unknown quantity, and we can't afford to buy either out.

We will be stuck with any coach we hire, at least until the end of their contract.

You are correct. People on this thread have been a lot more sensible about Mike Price than the talk radio crowd.

However, if you listen to Crunch Time on Saturdays, as recently as the end of last season, the majority of callers to that show made the argument that we needed to keep Mike Price because he was the best coach we could afford.

I have been calling into that show and asking for them to fire Price for at least 3 years and I get slammed for saying it every time.

You watch. In February, people will stop hurting over the football season and start feeling sorry for Price and the supporters will want to give him another chance.

I have to concur with fitbud. While no one on this board feels that, I have heard some UTEP alumni saying that Mr. Price is the best we can afford and we shouldn't get rid of him no matter what. (Coincidentally they were older alumni)

Support is no longer there for Price.... He is done.

His season speaks louder than any Alumni group can.

That is what you think but you forget that Alumni groups, especially the old guys, are the one's who frequently buy season tickets and donate to the school.

They have a lot more power than you think.

OK.

You're right, the old minority gorup will speak up, Stull/Natalicio will keep the existing contract from expiring, and we will offer Price an extension for another 6 years.

There.

I'm just saying that it's not a guarantee that Price is gone.

I would put it at about 80%.

RE: What would you do if you were Aaron Price?
I suppose it's not a guarantee that Price is gone but I'll bet my house, no lets make it your house, that he "retires" at the end of the season.

The OP's question about Aaron Price... I just have an aversion to a coach hiring his kids like that, especially as a coordinator. It becomes to difficult to fire them. This zone read offense would have worked if we had a qb that was quick and a very capable runner as well as reasonably accurate passing. Neither Lamaison or Meger were good enough to run it. Sullivan might be but he was injured and not able to go until recently. Too little too late even if the Miners happen to win the last two games. Its a shame because this team had a lot of potential.

We all have our own idea for the next head coach but we did well way back when we hired Stull as head coach and his experience was at UMass, then a div 1-AA school. I would love to see a solid and successful FCS coach with Texas recruiting ties come to UTEP. Willie Fritz of SHSU fits that bill.
