I know that Canes is a big hit, and Handsome Biscuit is there now too. I'd certainly say they've got a lot of character.

My younger son's favorite restaurant is La Herradura.

RE: ODU Master Plan
Good to know. Not living in the area any longer, I only get down there for a few basketball games and most of the football games each year. Mojo Bones always seems empty as does Monarch Grill (or Recovery Room as its now called it seems). La Hedurra is good, but I don't see too many students in there. I thought the pizza place before YNot was cool. I was surprised after the UAB game on Saturday night that Borjo Coffee House was closed. I would have thought with it Saturday night on a college campus with 6000 basketball fans a block away that place would be buzzing. Putting a Dominos Pizza in such a prime location seems desperate too. Unless is a different type of special one, Dominos doesn't even have on site seating. And I can't imagine that even if they do, anyone would rather eat there than Del Veccios.
That said, I'd take Cogans, UPie, Dirty Buffalo, Macks Barge and these new places over anything in the village hands down.

Why can’t we have both at or near ODU and you stop complaining.

It’s on topic and not much of a complaint. I’ve always had an interest in urban planning and all things ODU. Just trying to get a read on the vibe of the place from afar. You and I have both been on these boards long enough to know it’s 50% complaining, and I’m one of the more optimistic ones. Sheesh
So as to your question. I don’t know why we can’t have both, but it seems the village has never quite taken off and the students don’t seem to support it much. Meanwhile North Colley seems to be experiencing a bit of a revival with some very cool things happening. That can only be good for ODU. My point was perhaps ODU and Norfolk can capitalize upon this good turn of events and make that area ODU centric, finally brining something back to campus like it had before the Ted was built. A true college town vibe even if just for a few blocks. I’d rather have brew pubs, music venues, and pizza joints in interesting buildings than Dominoes pizza in a bland office park. I think most would.

Every time I go to borjo's during daytime hours, the place is usually packed. I've never seen it less than half full, so I assume they are doing just fine without being open after basketball games. Domino's is just more pizza options for students which is a pretty popular choice of food and more competition is better for the students. That space they occupy was definitely large enough for seating. The places before (ynot, and whatever bar place) was just too expensive to work for students in order for it to be popular. Sometimes a cheaper chain is the way to go, better than an empty space.

I think the restaurants are fine in the village. Once those trees are twice as tall. There will be more character

F'ing WS and Broderick skimped as usual and opted for the slow-growing trees.

Slow growing trees tend to be stronger and weather bad weather better than something that will grow quickly.

Good times...30 push-ups 30 sit-jacks, 30 jumpies (times 3) Run to the Hampton Blvd Bridge and back, then 2 hours of rowing six days a week, all before 9:00 AM. When I could get out of bed

RE: ODU Master Plan
Is beach volleyball still on the table? The sand courts by Whitehurst would be a nice location down by the water for a volleyball venue. I would think it wouldn't cost that much to get them up to division one standards. Bleachers, signage, scorer's table/ booth. Port-a-johns and food trucks?
