The architect is VMDO and it looks like its listed on their website but when you click on the link it says page not found. Anyways click this link to look at a few of the photos.

I think it looks better than the other dorms. Where is this going?

Over next to the gym, there are some crappy academic buildings that are going away. I think the teal tailgaing lot is there

This will eliminate the beige lot.

Lost the Lt Blue, Purple, 1/2 of Gray, and now Green and Beige on the block. I know we need dorms and classes, but tailgating might be getting tougher.

The lost of the lot should not be a surprise. It's been on the master plan for 5 years.

I guess if you want to tailgate, you will have to fork over bigger bucks to ODAF.

Planetarium shows begin again. I've been to a few. I hope that they get better equipment in a new building though.

RE: ODU Master Plan
2 things I have heard STUDENTs talking about that they would really like and need. 1. a fraternity row where each fraternity can have meeting and gathering space. 2. designated location on campus (maybe Kaufman mall) where all fraternities can gather as a group and have tailgating parties and rallies for football and other sports events. I know ECU does this. What that would do would be get all the student body involved and engaged and build school pride. I think # 2 should be VERY easy to do. I am also sure someone will find theories on why it is not a good thing. To me what a better way to build engagement, inclusion, and pride within the student body.

I agree. I was not in a fraternity but I can't see how someone would argue against it.

The beauty of building a row, you solve the problem of 2.

RE: ODU Master Plan
Perhaps the school did / does plan a row?

Only problem is, it's going to be costly. Doubt something like that would go so close to the presidents house.

School could start making offers over here though. Or the individual orgs could do it.

Anybody have any pictures from the 1995 Masterplan?

Thought I read the stadium rebuild includes a tailgate/part spot for the students. Not sure which phase, but it's really needed.

It's definitely doable, ODU just needs to work with the fraternities on making this a reality. Not sure how motivated ODU really is, however.

ODU could set aside some space for the row and the fraternities would take out a loan to build the individual houses. My fraternity did this at UT and making the monthly payments is simple with a healthy amount of brothers living in the house paying rent. Paid the down payment with donations from alums. Ultimately, UT owns the land, but the fraternity owns the building and makes leases payments to the school for the land.

RE: ODU Master Plan
I remember several years ago they would have a concert near The Ted on Basketball game nights and the concert would end just before game time. They must have had free refreshments because the kids were stoked when they arrived inside. Why can't they spend a little money and do that again???

I think a row would be huge for ODU, I think there is actually enough land where the Powhatan apts are to do something like what they did at Wofford College (where the Carolina Panthers have their training camp)

RE: ODU Master Plan
Why can't the frats just buy up some vacant properties in Lamberts Point and create their own row?

Because Norfolk has a law on the books that no more than 4, or it might be 6, people that are non-related may reside in the same home/apartment. The existing Fraternity houses (If any are still around) that exist are grandfathered in under an older law and are consider boarding houses and must undergo annual building inspections etc. The quickest way to get a fraternity row of some kind built would be for the University to build it as University sponsored housing.

That makes sense. Didn't know if that law but was aware of the old houses. I guess a work around could be for the fraternities to buy adjacent land since the school can't. Then donate the land to the school with the condition it be used for fraternity houses.
