LT has to get to 12 or be top 16 AND be ahead of one of the AQ champs. Unlikely at this point.

I think I'm confused.
If Louisiana Tech gets into the Top 16, don't the bowls HAVE to take them if they win the WAC? That would mean Notre Dame or another AQ conference runner up has to get bumped. Notre Dame is not in a conference, nor are they an AQ team.
Top 16 and ahead of a BCS conference champ.
Notre Dame is not being left out of the BCS. Even if they lose a game they are not being left out.
There is also the 3/4 rule where if you finish 3rd or 4th in the bcs rankings you automatically get into a BCS game. So if say The SEC has a team ranked 1, 3 and 5 the BCS bowls HAVE to take the #3 team which means #5 is automatically left out.

FSU has a great defense. UL has the better Offense if We get there. ND could be first choice according to My friends from Louisville living in West Palm Beach. Could be a good matchups.

A bowl has to take them is they are in the top 16 AND ahead of a conference champion, which in all likely hood would only happen if either Nebraska loses, if USC loses to ND, but then beats Oregon in the PAC 12 CCG, or if SFU/Clemson loses to Miami/North Carolina in the ACC CCG. Also to note ND is not in a conference, but they are an AQ team. they can lose one or even two of their last three games and likely be an automatic qualifier: they will be eligible regardless and will be selected if eligible without any debate.
(11-06-2012 12:57 PM)BatonRougeEscapee Wrote: Sugar can take an SEC team every year. Would they pass up the chance to take ND knowing it may be a decade before they get the chance again?
They could take ND, and it is certainly feasible, but with likely two or even three other top ten SEC teams there, and negotiations still going on for the Champions bowl, I just wonder if they would pass on one? Also they would never get an SEC team with their second pick, as the Fiesta Bowl is not allowing an SEC team to pass them by.

Orange: FSU vs UofL/RU
If Oregon is in the National Championship game, I cannot foresee Rose Bowl passing up Notre Dame for a two loss Oregon State team. Especially since Oregon State may be outside the eligible teams after they lose to Oregon the last week of the season. Yes they love their Big Ten vs. Pac 12, but they love Notre Dame more than any other single team.
The Big East champ will be in the Orange Bowl, with one exception: if Louisiana Tech becomes BCS eligible, which appears likely to happen if Nebraska loses. LA Tech is currently 20th and several teams directly ahead of them are almost assured to lose (Stanford to Oregon, USC to Oregon and maybe even ND, UCLA to USC, Texas to K State, Clemson to Florida St, and Texas A&M to Alabama. And the teams behind them are not likely to catch them save for maybe Texas Tech. . . . So they could conceivably end up at 11 or 12 come the end of the year.
This creates one of three scenarios in which I could see the Big East champ not in the Orange Bowl.
- 1) LA Tech is an automatic bid, and the least desirable team. Thus they are the last picked, and picked by the Orange Bowl. However, while bowls normally do not like all local teams, I cannot rule out local politics poking at the Sugar Bowl to take LA Tech should they be eligible. Plus it is possible that if the BE champ is not Louisville or Cincinnati, they may think they can get a better turnout from the local team than one travelling from far away without a history of large travelling fanbases – note this is not a shot at any other team, just that Louisville and Cincinnati are driving distance from New Orleans, and no other BE teams are.
2) Let's suppose K State is not in the title game, and it’s either Oregon or ND. It is possible the only eligible teams for the Fiesta Bowl to pick will be other Big XII teams or a 2/3 loss Oregon State team (who might not even be eligible). Well the Fiesta cannot match up two Big XII teams, so they may offer to trade a pick to the Orange Bowl and take their pick in exchange for the first pick next year. This could put the Big East champion in the Fiesta Bowl (note this scenario could come up with or without LA Tech being involved depending on how things play out)
3) If Florida is the Sugar Bowl replacement pick and Louisville is the BE champ, and in the top five or six, it may be seen as a made for TV matchup between Florida and a former Florida coach who recruits heavily in Florida. This assumes K State is in the BCS championship game; otherwise there is no way they pass on Oklahoma.
Outside of that, the BE champ is pretty much going to the Orange Bowl in all likelihood. I actually already booked my airline tickets while they are still cheap (luckily Southwest has a generous refund policy if Louisville doesn’t make a BCS game or goes somewhere else). But wanted to go ahead and get the tickets while they were still under $200.
we took 30K the the sugar bowl...so you are right

Why does everyone expect Nebraska to win the Big Ten? I think Michigan wins it.

Because Nebraska has an easier path. PSU is a tough game for the cornhuskers but UM has to go to Columbus still. So even if they both lose Nebraska has the tie breaker.

At this point in the season, I simply make all projections with the team currently leading in the stamdings as winning out. It's just easier that way.

While I personally would love a Sugar bowl (we have not been there before) we already have a Fiesta bowl and Orange bowl in the trophy case.. I think if we win out it will be the Orange bowl, that is not a given but man it would be sweet.

Technically we don't....lose 1 of the UConn or Cuse games and win the other 2 and we still will get the BCS bowl.

Correct, the main one we have to worry about is losing to Rutgers. Undefeated or not headed into that game I think we have to beat Rutgers to win the BCS bid. Not to slight UConn but that is a mismatch and a home game I just don't see losing this year. Cuse and Rutgers are going to be games Louisville has to be ready to play to win though..

It would then likely be Florida. Truth be told, Alabama is the one team I do not want to see Louisville play. Lousiville's run defense is not very good, and would get shredded by Alabama's running attack. I think Louisville could score on them, but if you can;t stop them, it becomes a battle of turnovers, and Louisville has not done that well this year.
If Utah could manhandle alabama, I'm sure Louisville can. Teddy Bridgewater is the best quarterback in college and will be a better pro than any quarterback in the next draft. Don't fall for the sec hype. Oregon is the best team this year, they are better than NC Oregon team.

Oh okay, forgotten they had faced each other already, I may be a Mich State fan but I pay no attention to the B1G, EMU and SMU games come before B1G and MSU in importance to me.

You actually think the Fiesta Bowl would pick Louisville over Georgia or Flordia? Or even Clemson for that matter? Or that the Sugar Bowl would pass up on Florida or Georgia to take Clemson? Really?
