ESPN Switches BE & ACC BBall Announcers
Mike Patrick will be doing Big East games this year and not ACC games. Dave O'Brien will replace him.

Story is hitting twitter hard now that Mike Patrick will call BE bball games now instead of ACC games. Dave O'Brien will now call ACC bball games. ACC fans seem thrilled to jettison Patrick. Not sure how to react, is ESPN sticking it to us again? What does the board think?

Fair trade.

OBrien can still get to call some of his own alma mater games (Syracuse) while Patrick gets a breath of fresh-air and enters the Big East telecasts.

Both are solid announcers....but its generally good to cover a different league every now and then...as yes, it can get stale over time.

Yes. Take him. Thank you.

I'm sure if this news reaches the PackPride board, it'll result in a 20-page celebratory salute.

Yes! Awesome! I still can't listen to DOB after how horrible he and Marcelo Balboa were during the 06 World Cup (and the runup).

No one can argue this, people try to say Gus Johnson but that guy was awful.

Gus is only good if you are the underdog making an improbable comeback run...otherwise he only adds to your anxiety as a favorite. 03-lmfao

Mike Patrick is one of those guys like Brent Musburger, Vern Lingquist, Bill Raftery, Mike Tirico, Dick Vitale, Al Michales, Joe Buck, Jim Nantz, or Marv Albert. Doesn't even matter if you even like them, when you hear their voice, you are convinced it is a big game. I grew up with Mike Patrick as the voice of Sunday Night football, so when I hear him doing a game, it always makes it seem like a big time game. I am rather indifferent on him calling a game, but his voice makes it seem big time to me.

Agree.

Enjoyed his Sunday Night NFL games with Paul Maguire and even Joe Theisman.

In regards to college basketball...he had to get sick of doing what seemed to be mostly Duke and/or UNC games.

One thing I always liked about Patrick...he doesn't pretend to be the "know-it-all" in regards to college basketball (i.e. never just talks to show the world what he knows)...as he normally just allows the game to happen...and doesn't get lost in X's and O's...which is the analyst's main job to do.

As long as Raft is involved in Big East games I'm basically happy.

O'Brien was the Marlins play-by-play voice before that. All of my good will for him was undone by that godawful experience.

Mike Patrick is considered a bigger dicksmoker of Dook and UNC than even Dookie V. nowadays, at least by the UConn board. Horrible.

No question. McDonough is consistently well-prepared to do any sporting event, whether it be football or basketball.

FIFY.

That was probably the worst scheduling of an announcer of ALL TIME when CBS first picked Boston native Sean McDonough to be the lead announcer for SEC Football Broadcasts.

RE: ESPN Switches BE & ACC BBall Announcers
I noticed in the actual press release by ESPN that there are specific mentions of Dave O'Brien moving from the B1G to the ACC telecasts, as well as, Joe Tessitore & Sean Farnham moving to the B1G games but no mention of Mike Patrick moving to the BEast & being teamed with Len Elmore for weekend games. You actually have to scroll down to the list of broadcasting teams to find that out. Noway this is an oversight, coincidence or meaningless...It's deliberate...The butthurting must & will stop soon!!

It's b/c they think they're going to lose all or most of BE football.
