The "state" isn't as bad as you are implying. There is Florida State, Ohio State, Penn State (prior to being Sanduskied), N.C. State, Kansas State, Iowa State, Washington State, Arizona State, Michigan State, Louisanna State, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State all in BCS conferences....
And don't forget Coach Hayden and Minnesota State or that future football powerhouse GA State!
