Exclamation So now that you guys have played some more legit 1A compeition
How are you feeling about your coaches and players?

What do you guys need to work on?

It has to be tough starting from scratch like you did so I was just wondering what is the pulse on the program after some pretty big losses.

Not trying to flame....just would like to see how you guys are adapting.... CUSA is tougher than the WAC, although, this year, it doesn't look like it.

We have a ways to go........... Rice, San Jose St. and Utah St. were just so much bigger. It looked just like it really was........... teams with Jrs and Srs versus a team with mainly Freshmen and Soph. We will get better eventually.

I was actually encouraged by how we played the last 3 games. Our guys never gave up. We actually out gained San Jose State. If we can win 2 of our last 3 games, this season will be a great success. (La Tech is going to blow us out too but that's ok).

Our main on the field problems right now are that we are too small up front and too slow at some positions. It hurts that Soza is out. We've had way too many turnovers and mistakes. Those have caused the scores in the last 3 games to balloon up more than they should have.

The biggest thing that needs to be done to improve the program is to get permanent practice facilities built on campus. What we have now has to be a hard sale for recruits.

The other thing that might hurt us pretty bad is our out of conference schedule for the next few years. It's way too tough. I wish we had 4 games we could would be competitive in. Next year, we have a killer OOC schedule and a conference schedule that's more difficult than this years'. We might go 0-12 next year. That can't be good for a program. = /

Good for the program? Short term NO, long term YES!!! Also, the home games will have much better attendance just because of the notoriety and history of the programs we will face.

Oklahoma St. and Houston come to town.

Maybe you are right. Maybe you are not.

I just can't see how going 0 and 12 next year is going to help the program?

RE: So now that you guys have played some more legit 1A compeition
We don't have a pass rush which gives QBs all day to find a receiver. Our secondary is suspect and give way too much cushion to receivers. Some of our offensive play calling has been horrid. Way too many options and too many bubble screens. The middle is always open but they rarely go there. As someone said, we are not big on the DL and do not have the speed. All that said, we will get better and this years commitment list is probably our best yet. We will get stronger and bigger and I can definitely tell you we will be competitive next year. The WAC this year is loaded with LT, USU, and SJSU all bowl eligible.

We had too many mistakes probably due to inexperience and youth. Also our punting is the worst in the nation. Averaging 34 yards is not going to cut it. We will get better and watch out CUSA.

I don't think anyone is "really" surprised at the current losing streak. This was the part of the schedule that most people circled as "the gauntlet." We can't sleep on McNeese, but that game is winnable. Idaho is in shambles, but still not a guaranteed W, and I think TxSt has an obvious edge in experience but we still have a shot at the W. So a 7-5 season isn't unrealistic, and probably better than most people hoped for (realistically) before the season started.

I'll be disappointed if we go 0-12 next year. But even if we're 0-12 for the next 2 or 3 years, it won't keep me from buying season tickets or donating to the program. I waited 20 years for Roadrunner football, and I'm gonna enjoy every damn minute of it.

Seconded. I haven't been waiting as long, but I second the general sentiment.

[EDIT]
BTW we won't go 0-12 I think. But 1 or 2 wins is likely. I hope the scheduling gods throw us a bone and give us UAB as our 2013 cross-divisional game. It would help them too.

Positives:
- The kids never give up. Even thought they are under sized, a step slower than the competition of late the guys battle until the whistle blows. You have to give Coker and his staff credit for that
- OL overall has been a plus. Even though we are extremely thin there its been one of the brighter surprises of the year
- We only lose 4 SRs if I am not mistaken. Makes for an experienced group the next few years.
- Recruiting has been up. We still haven't gotten a game changer commit but overall this class is the best so far

Negatives
- Attendence is not where we would like it
- The guys dont show up to play until late in the 2nd quarter/after half time
- too small, too slow
- Injuries and zero depth

Our OOC schedule is going to be rough. I'm hoping name recognizition continues the college football spark in San Antonio. You never know. One big win could vault our young program. I doubt we go 0-12 next year. UNT, Rice, UTEP are winnable games. I'd be happy with 3 wins next year. After that we have ODU and Charlotte joining. No doubt we will get more competitive as a program as we get more mature, stronger, better recruits and better facilities.

Rice was solidly better than us this year and UTEP hung with Oklahoma at home.

I'd like to see us pull out a win or two next season but I'm not optimistic.

Hopefully we will get to play the weaker teams on our conference schedule at home and we get to play all the weaker teams in CUSA next year (UAB).

After the La Tech game, I really felt that we finally became a FBS team. We played with passion and with a chip on our shoulder. We didnt take any guff from the highly ranked bulldogs and we gave them a game. Our lack of depth, lack of a pass rush, and secondary problems will hopefully be addressed in the off season. But overall we looked really good. We know who our QB is and we should not question that position again.
