Hmm...juicy...

Then why would the Aresco say that an eastern team has not be excluded; unless they were thinking about adding an eastern school?

It is interesting no doubt. The part about Aresco mentioning UL and UC aren't really eastern teams keeps sticking out. He keeps making a point of bringing it up in every interview I've heard recently. Ehrhart mentioned the same thing in the Memphis interview.

Well, this little tidbit might cheer you up. Remember when Memphis hired Tranghese, and he said he was giving them a report about how to get into the BE? Well, no report was ever delivered, not even a memo. You know why? Tranghese was helping Memphis negotiate with the BE for our entry. He just couldn't say that. The presidents blew up his plan at the last minute.

Maybe that's what Neinas is doing for ECU? Just a guess. Makes some sense. Not trying to get anybody stirred up, but we're all adults here.

I don't know. Some things he says conflict with each other. And info out in the BE hinterlands could be days old, and things change. It's hard to figure out until it happens. Very fluid situation, I think. Lots of irons in the fire, that all affect each other. But it's fun to speculate.

Pretty clear by everything we have heard that BYU, Air Force and ECU are the 3 players now, most likely in that order.
Since Aresco is gonna be in Denver like the other post said he is almost certainly meeting with the MWC and headed to Colorado Springs and Provo from there. If Air Force was not a serious candidate then Aresco would of went to Provo from Salt Lake City unless it is a talk about bowl agreement or the playoffs which is possible.
If those meetings do not go well, ECU could slide in that spot.

Denver isn't until next month, every commissioner in America will be there... It's the BCS meetings

Yeah but it is still the perfect time for him to meet with BYU and Air Force. By that time the TV negotiations are gonna be going full speed.

Side question: Does Air Force have a plan for their other sports should they accept a Football invite to the BE?

I doubt it. Not sure it has ever been mentioned.

I assume the WAC as it appears it is going to survive as an olympic only conference. Its also possbile AF could maybe get in the WCC. They are all faith based schools, but the military academy academics and honor code would make it somewhat compatible.

It will not let me post the articles and I thing this site cold get in trouble for it. Basically Air Force is the front runner. Air Force is ready to talk to the Big East. BYU wants to stay indy and with ESPN only.

Well Denver and Colorado Springs sports writers are the sources for CBS.. But the thing is when I said Air Force was the front runner and BYU wasn't people on here did what they do like k5james.
Here it is a few hours later and ESPN pops them up on the rumor mill. Believe what you want but I was right on the rumor.

Well, no automatic access to the 7th bowl probably would hurt the Big East chances---but that hasnt happened. What I will say is that only playing 8 games is primarily due to Navy. If Air Force is one of the teams added, a regularly scheduled OOC game (Air Force) would become a conference game. Thus a 9 game schedule would be viable for a 16 team conference. Is it possible that the Houston Bowl is telling Aresco that if they make the conference more bowl friendly by adding AF, ECU, and BYU (to get to 16)---that they might be interested in a contract bowl with just the Big East? You might have the Big East on one side and Pac-12/Big-12 on the other. Im guessing BYU would join in a second.

Im kinda thinking as I type---but what if thats exactly whats going on with the 7th bowl. The bowl as currently configured is in trouble. The bowl maybe feels like theres too much down side risk of getting a small MAC school or small SB school for the money they are being asked to pay---they would prefer that the Big East pull in a few more big fanbase schools and they will just sign with the Big East. With a Big-12 or a Pac-12 team as an opponent--with only the Big East on the other side, they at least limit thier down side to a significant degree. Realistically, the bowls are not crazy about the Big East, but the other "gand of five" conferences are even less popular with the bowls.

ECU and Tulsa meet several of the conference's needs. However, it would be cooler if ECU officially changed it's name to Pirate University. They would be a lock!
