RE: Lamar joining SBC?
Guys, the Sun Belt Conference is NOT open admissions. Lamar lost that autobid when they left the conference in the late 90's.

Lamar left in 1987 and dropped football in 1989.
They restarted in 2010.

Even if Lamar does end up moving to FBS, even if they do end up going to the Sun Belt, this report states both have already happened, which clearly they have not. Even if there are backroom deals and promises already in place(I do not believe they are) this is not how you break a story, by reporting it in such a way to make it sound like it's common knowledge.

This is a major foul up by this "news" outlet.

Yeah, considering that schedules have already been mostly made for next year for all the SBC, and most of the Southland, I can't see them joining in the next year.

In 2 years? Maybe. Could be, I wouldn't put it past them, but no way do all the Southland schools, the Southland conference as a whole, ALL the SBC schools, and the SBC conference as a whole all keeping this under wraps.

Even if we could redo all the schedules and they could bargain with the southland to let them go on such short notice, they missed the deadline to move up for 2013. If they made the announcement today it would be 2014 before they had Sun Belt schools on their schedule.

No start ups and GaSouthern, App St, and Sam Houston St are the only FCS programs we should consider bringing in. We now have our programs winning, so time to get a better TV deal and bowl ties in so we can officially pass CUSA, and start picking up some of their top programs.

Not so fast my friend. They just quoted what the kid said. Which brings us to another point.

Coaches will say anything to a recruit to get them to commit. Let us not forget how Schnelly told recruits FAU would be in the Big East by now.

Lamar is one of the many FCS teams who made overtures to the WAC. The WAC was considering an Eastern Division with teams like James Madison, Jacksonville State, Etc. There could be WAC interest in Lamar.

I could be wrong but I don't think he was referring to the college's admissions policy when referring to "open admissions". COGS

The kid was told what he wanted to hear. He may feel "less than" because he's not getting any FBS love.

Whatever the reason for the statement, it is safe to say Lamar isnt joining the Sun Belt this year or next. Explain to me why we need to expand now?

Lamar has a larger athletic budget than many of your current conference members and has the best attendance of any school in the SLC. Untrue sir. But I understand not wanting FCS start ups. If I was in the SBC I would probably feel the same way.

I had a great trip to Beaumont when we played them a few years ago.

Their stadium is awesome for it's size.
I had a good bit of stadium envy going.

And the crowd we saw was pretty big and fired up.

I am surprised to hear they don't have good support.

If by many, you mean two (ULM, ASU), you would be correct.

http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/GetOneInstitutionData.aspx

Lamar- $13.3m

ULM- $8.2m
ASU- $13.2m
UL- $13.9m
Troy- $15m
FAU- $15.6m
USA- $17.7m
MTSU- $21m
WKU- $22.2m
UNT- $22.4m
FIU- $27.4m

Another interesting point to note is that our two departing members have the highest athletic budgets.

We have top the attendance in the SLC in all sports for the last 10+ years. Fan support is not an issue. I think the only issue is that we are an FCS start up.

I changed it. I initially went off the budget found here-

That budget apparently doesn't take into consideration non-allocated expenses.
