Wednesday is Women's Basketball Media Day

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.--The Atlantic 10 Conference will host its annual women's basketball media day Wednesday. The day includes a media teleconference and the release of the preseason predicted order of finish and preseason poll.

The Atlantic 10 is also offering fans a new opportunity this year, the chance to be a reporter. Fans can submit questions for coaches via the league's:

Those questions will be asked on the teleconference, which features all 16 head coaches.

The teleconference audio and a transcript of the call will be made available follwoing the call, giving fans the opportunity to see if their questions got asked.

UMass @ A-10 XC Championships
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The men's cross country team finished the 2012 A-10 Championships in a tie for 8th place with Fordham. Butler took home the men's and women's championship on Saturday morning. Butler was followed by Saint Joseph's and La Salle.

The Minutemen were led by junior Antony Taylor with an 11th place finish overall in a field of 136 and a time of 26:05. In second for UMass and placing 20th overall was senior, John O'Shea. O'Shea crossed the finish line at 26:24.0 and would be followed by sophomore harrier Richard Racz. Racz came in 54th and third for his team with a time of 26:58.1.

The women's cross country team finished 12th Saturday in the A-10 Championships. Katie Clark of Butler took home the crown finishing first and led her team to a championship as La Salle and Richmond finished second and third respectively.

Freshman standout Carly Zinner led the way for UMass placing 35th overall in a field of 140 competitors. The freshman finished the 5k race with a time of 18:53.9 which is tied for her best time of the season which she set last week. In second for the Minutewomen was junior Sarah Barrett. Barrett like many of her teammates has improved each week finishing in a season best 19:19.5, a time good enough for 63rd overall. Rachel Hilliard wasn't far behind her at 19:25.3 and 67th overall.

Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- La Salle has claimed the top seed in the 2012 Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship, which will be played at Rhode Island’s URI Soccer Complex Thurs., Nov. 1-Sun., Nov. 4. It is the second straight year the Explorers claimed the top spot in the championship.

Dayton, the defending champion, earned the second seed with 22 points and a 7-1-1 conference ledger. The Flyers, who finished 13-4-1 overall will play seventh-seeded Massachusetts, which won the three-team tiebreaker to secure seventh. The Minutewomen closed out the regular season at 9-9-1 overall and 4-4-1 in league play with 13 points and will face regionally ranked Dayton at 5:00 pm on Thursday.

Atlantic 10 newcomer VCU is the third seed and will face sixth-seeded Saint Joseph’s at 7:30 pm Thursday. The Rams finished with 19 points, a 6-2-1 A-10 mark and an 11-4-4 overall record. Saint Joseph’s is 4-2-3 with 15 points and a 9-6-4 overall record. The Hawks tied for fifth place with St. Bonaventure, but lost the head-to-head tiebreaker.

The Bonnies are seeded fifth with 15 points and a 5-4-0 record in league play and 8-10-1 overall. They will play fourth-seeded Butler at 1:30 pm Thursday. The Bulldogs, at 5-1-1 with 18 points in the A-10 and 11-4-4 overall, are the conference’s other new team.

2012 A-10 Field Hockey Championship
Richmond Earns Top Seed in 2012 A-10 Field Hockey Championship

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – No. 16 University of Richmond earned the top seed for the 2012 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship, which gets underway on Fri., Nov. 2, at Garber Field on the campus of the University of Massachusetts.

Richmond (15-4/7-0) will take on fourth-seeded VCU (13-5/4-3), while No. 18 Massachusetts (12-8/6-1), the host team, squares off against third-seeded Temple (12-8/5-2).

The Spiders, reigning A-10 Champions and seven time league winners, enter the tournament undefeated in conference play. Richmond led the league in both conference and non-conference wins, having won 15 games overall, including 10 straight victories. The Spiders are led by sophomore midfielder Rebecca Barry who leads the squad with 15 goals and 39 points on the season.

Massachusetts holds 12 tournament titles, and looks to earn their 13th conference title at the 2012 Championship. The Minutewomen set the stage earlier this month after upsetting No. 1 Syracuse, 2-1. UMass is led by senior forward Nicole Cordero, who leads the squad with 12 goals on the season and senior midfielder Kim Young who leads the team with 27 points.

Temple looks to garner its first A-10 Championship title since 1994, having qualified for the tournament in each of the past nine seasons. The Owls are led by sophomore forward Amber Youtz who is the conference leader in goals (21) and points (52).

VCU looks to earn its first A-10 tournament title in its inaugural season with the Conference. The Rams are led by senior forward Kelsey Scherrer, who is ranked second in the league with 16 goals and 41 points.

The winner of the single-elimination tournament will host the Northeast Conference champion in an NCAA Tournament play-in game on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 1:00 pm. The winner will advance to the 2012 NCAA Field Hockey Championship.
