Book it.
The issue is that there are projections now that are saying that there wont even be 70 bowl eligible teams this year. The only way to keep the SBC out would be convincing the NCAA to waive the bylaws it has set in place this year that guarantees all eligible 6-6 squads get placed in a bowl should there not be 70 eligible programs
The only way we dont get 5 bowl teams this year involves numerous upsets, and possible a 5-7 team being placed in a bowl ahead of one of us.

WAC, MAC, and SBC will have extra,
Its the bigger leagues that wont fill their slots. SEC is certain to not fill its slots this year. Same with Big 10

SBC won't be out-- we just won't play a Money Conference team. Committees will work it out so they send a MAC or Coosa or WAC team to face us.

It doesn't necessarily involve numerous "upsets.". We just need the middle of the pack Big 10 and ACC teams to separate from each other and not end up with 4 or 5 6-6 teams. We also need Houston, SMU, and Marshall to falter, although they all won't. We should cheer against Ole Miss and Arkansas (Vandy and Tennessee will both more than likely get to 6) as well as Iowa State and Baylor. New Mexico, Western Michigan, and Miami OH are other teams we should root against.
I still think we'll end up right at 70 teams. Obviously we'll have a much clearer picture in a few weeks.
I really do worry about LA Tech trying to pull something that will cause some shifts in what would otherwise be a pretty solid, geographically friendly bowl lineup for the conference.

The "7-5 rule gets in first, then 6-6 teams" rule will help WKU a lot over last year where we got screwed at 7-5.

There was no 7-5 gets in first rule last year. Repealed in 2009.

So a 7-5 team gets in before 6-6 this year? Correct?

Unless a 6-6 is filling a contractual bowl spot for the conference.

No 6-6 = to 7-5 under current NCAA rules.

I am positive your are right, but I thought for instance.....a 6-6 Arkansas could fill the SEC Liberty Bowl spot even if there was an 7-5 team outside the SEC. Good to know.

That sucks.
So how does the bowl situation work with the SBC contract between them and the Godaddy and NO Bowl? Does one of the bowls HAVE to take the SBC champ? If so, which bowl is 'on point' for the champion?

6-6 Arkansas would be available for Liberty because they would be eligible.

As I learned last season figuring out these bowls and who goes where you need an advanced degree in rocket science..You would think it could be a lot simpler on this mess...We will have to get to 9 wins I feel to have a chance to go bowling...

Last year you had a crummy blowout loss to Indiana State to live down. This year you don't. You guys are a lock.

It's always about the numbers.
Number of vacancies
Number of expected tickets sold
Number of expected eyeballs watching

A ULL team limping in at 6-6 might not look to pretty, especially as the numbers at Cajun Field continue to fall

Both ULM and ULL were 6-6 that year, but I think the NO Bowl had to choose MT over them since we were 9-3.
