Toledo scheduling
The University of Toledo has found a really nice way to schedule football. The school has managed to bring in big time talent to the area as well as big time opponents. From one of the great newspapers in our country, the Toledo Blade tells us how UT does it. I delivered the Blade when I was younger. It's important to note that I almost, almost went to college at UT. I was a hair line from going there but decided on UC. Also, it should be noted that Toledo is my choice for the next member to the Big East Conference. Here is the article and here is additional information about the university. If you don't know anything about the school, check for yourself. Toledo has a great law school and medical school, is a major research university and is nestled in the far northwest corner of the state on Lake Erie. Toledo would be a GREAT addition to the Big East Conference.

Toledo can join the Big East after UC moves on. It is not in UC's best interest to have any other Ohio schools in the conferece with us, particularly from an exposure and recruiting standpoint. I know this sounds like an OSU type answer, but as the old saying goes, "Crap rolls downhill".

Toledo is a nice school but really has no national reputation at all.
Go to a bigger bowl or consistently win the MAC and make it to the NCAA tourney in bball a few years in a row and then come back and make the pitch.
Ohio U would be higher on a Big East list right now than Toledo.

RE: Toledo scheduling
Actually, Toledo would be a much better television market than Ohio U.
Still, can't see Toledo in a major conference anytime in the near future.

RE: Toledo scheduling
SuperflyBcat must think I have connections with the Big East. I just stated Toledo would be a team I think would be of interest. No, Ken Broo is not on the message board and I'm not Ken Broo. Reasons why I would consider Toledo:
-major research university in medicine and engineering
-enrollment at 22,000 is similar to that of Big East schools
-good athletics recently including football and mens and womens
soccer
-located in major metro area including areas such as southern
Michigan, northeastern Indiana (Ft Wayne) and north central Ohio
and large TV market
-beautiful campus near Lake Erie
-access to many recruiting areas including Toledo, Lima, Sandusky,
Detroit, Michigan, Ft Wayne, Indiana

If you do let me know, I need to talk to Aresco about something.

RE: Toledo scheduling
In all seriousness, I highly respect Toledo's program and what they've done in the MAC but they are never receiving a Big East invite. Although Conference-USA might be wise to give them a call, though...

They are not in a large TV market. They are in the 74th largest market in the country, behind such wonderful cities as Scranton, PA, Albany, NY, and they are even 10 spots behind Dayton. Just because they are close to Detroit does not mean they are part of the Detroit TV market.
Toledo is a fine MAC school with a respectable athletic department. They would not however, be a good Big East addition. That is even before you factor in the fact that they had a point shaving scandal just over 3 years ago.
Oh, and Ken Broo does have an account on this message board.

Since 2010, Toledo's MAC FB record is 18-2 and Ohio's is 16-5. The Bobcats haven't beaten the Rockets in FB since 1988. Actually I'm here in Florida and the Rockets have pretty good reputation. Toledo's finished in the AP's Final Top 25 in 3 decades(70's, 90's, and 2000's). UT has put $50 million in the athletic facilities upgrades in the past few years, been #1 in recruiting(Rival's.com-rank #1, so far this year) the past 3 seasons, and recently won the Cartwright Award for the best athletic academics in the MAC. The FB team is young and on the upswing.

RE: Toledo scheduling
Aresco will have the TV deal done soon, and Toledo doesn't add value to that.
