My guess is no. Otherwise, I think Aresco would have pushed them publicly, as well.

I'd agree. Plus, being in the ACC's backyard is generally a bad thing unless you're talking about Florida. From a pure TV perspective, it's the western markets that the league can actually own outright without direct competition (e.g. San Diego with SDSU, Las Vegas, the state of New Mexico, etc.) that would seem to be more appealing. East Carolina's main value would seem to be that it could be an all-sports member that is geographically close enough to the other all-sports members and plays solid football.

But here's the thing. If with the Big East's money ECU explodes and becomes the best football team in NC- that becomes a major story. I'm not talking tv, but rather on the field.

I can't seem to find the link to the interview, but Holland mentioned a while back (maybe a month or so ago) that he does have a longstanding relationship/friendship with Aresco. Expansion was not the main topic of this interview but it came up as it always does and he mentioned Aresco along with us hiring some sort of expansion consultant. I hate that I can't find the link anymore, but I didn't take much note of it at the time but maybe there's a little more to it than I originally thought.

Agree. I don't get that, and I don't get the fascination with 16. Pods are goofy, and you have to shift them around to play everybody. Sixteen is too big. So is 14, but we're there now. Sixteen ain't happening. Neither is the pod system.

replace ECU with OU - Ohio University.

They should be a full member. Ohio will most likely be undefeated this year, and has has many good seasons recently (10-2s). Their basketball product is also good.

Im sure no one agrees with me, but I think Ohio has alot of potential. Id like to see them added.

Wow, very interesting. There seems like maybe a bit of smoke building with this.

If you go to 16 teams, rotatating pods are the only way to get all of the teams in the conference to play one another on a semi regular basis.

And that is exactly why neither one makes any sense. Too big. Too much shifting of pods to make up divisions and play evberybody, until the NCAA rules are changed.

Well, of course ECU fans would say go to 16. That's how they could get in, lol.

I honestly think that would be an awesome lineup with all 3

I agree with you 100% that 12 is much better than 14 or 16. I would be happy to see Navy back out and stay at 12.

I actually agree with that. I just hate the concept of a 16-team conference, b/c it is too big to allow everybody to play everybody else on a semi-regular basis.

If this is true then I am excited about it. I would like to see the Big East have some good programs that draw well. ECU fits the bill as does BYU. I want both to be honest. I know they say ECU has a small market, but they attract a lot of attention out that way and have plenty of room to grow. I won't be mad if they are the ones to join. I still want BYU though. They would be at the top of the conference in terms of fan base and we need to increase our average attendance numbers IMO.

Also, when we say small market, sure we're not going to be the top 25 markets that draw big bucks for viewers, but we're still a top 100

You have a mirror image market draw as Fresno I believe.

What is interesting about this to me is that, IF accurate, it pretty much puts to rest talk about Fresno as #14, at least, assuming BYU and AFA say no.

Don't get me wrong. I LIKE Fresno. I just think if Ehrhart is right, and both BYU and AFA decline, the BE might take ECU over anybody else, now that ND left an all sports opening.

For western school fans who want another neighbor in the conference, you better hope that BYU or AFA says yes.

Relax. I think BYU is still #1 and AFA is #2. Aresco still hasn't mentioned anybody else. ECU being in there is a bit of a newer development, I think, probably a reaction by some eastern schools, since ND left, thus opening a slot for a possible all sports selection.

Oh I'm calm, just throwing an opinion out there. Navy (or Memphis or Temple) is the team that offset us from 12 and all of those schools are eastern in location. As one of two major geographical outliers, 14 should be west.
I think both Aresco and Carparelli mentioning in the past week that #14 will likely be a western team probably throws cold water on ECU being the choice in the end.

This. It will be a WEST team. The only way another eastern team gets added is if the BE expands to 16 which I hope they do not.
