Malzahn's first 2 mistakes
He scheduled us for 2 rather awful games next year

A game in Little Rock against FCS UAPB. (UAPB is a SWAC school about 40 minutes from Little Rock)

He also gave us a home and home with Idaho, beginning in Jonesboro next year. Personally speaking, the only Idaho team I want to play is in Boise.

The good news, I guess, is that we have the easiest nonconference schedule in the history of the Sun Belt Conference next year.

@ Auburn
Idaho
@ Memphis
UAPB

RE: Malzahn's first 2 mistakes
I've no problem with playing any FBS school home and home, but as I advocated some time back, the smarter play would have been a 3 for 1 with Idaho with one of those in Little Rock with Idaho counting the LR game as a home game.

The UAPB decision....

If its not part of the season ticket package requiring me to buy it, very unlikely I buy four tickets. My wife has serious back issues and the bleachers kill her.

Don't think its all that bad,

3 easily winnable games and 1 payday.

The Home and Home with Idaho is a tad icky because of the travel.

Is there a reason the FCS game is in LR? That seems odd.

Auburn isnt that stupid.

Den is in meltdown mode right now, but I just dont see it as a crazy terrible thing. I loathe the idea of playing UAPB in LR, but if Ole Miss wasnt willing to play along for a LR game next year, then we might not have had many options.

Idaho sucks...but its an FBS win. I just cant complain about that.

The ill-thought-out belief that by playing an in-state in Little Rock that we can shame Arkansas into playing us.

They fired a coach one game into a season.

They had Houston Nutt texting his girlfriend before kickoff of a bowl game. They paid him $3 million to go coach a divisional rival.

They got sued for racial discrimination and had testimony about the prior AD using the N word in jokes with boosters.

They had Petrino hire his girlfriend and wreck his motorcycle and get fired for lying.

They bragged for years about the nationally dominant track program that hasn't won a national title since the NCAA busted them.

They hired John L Smith knowing he was about to file a multi-million dollar bankruptcy and he brought us the great "Get your piss hot" slogan and said the team belongs to the state of Alabama.

Anyone thinking the Arkansas Razorbacks can be shamed is pretty ignorant.

Sure we had an option...don't play in LR. ASU has survived for many years not playing there....we still could.

An interesting proposition to get a win-win for you guys and Idaho given their impending scheduling woes...but do you really want to play Idaho three times?

I agree, it would a major assumption to think Malzahn and Freeze's path to a BCS coaching gig will be similar. Coach Freeze had a resume as a head coach, Malzahn is in his first year as a head coach in NCAA football.

Isn't weakening the schedule one of the specific things the SBC wanted to do to increase the chances of becoming a BCS buster? I know I've read that multiple times that they want to cut back the body bag games and schedule more winnables.

I think a lot of our fans were expecting those body bag games to be replaced with home and homes against CUSA teams and lower level AQ schools.

Throw in a disdain for playing in Little Rock, and an overall dislike of Idaho, and you get why some of our fans our angry.

RE: Malzahn's first 2 mistakes
I think I'd WANT to play in Little Rock if I was ASU no matter who the opponent. We play in Charlotte sometimes to expand our brand reach. WVU even played at FedEx field in Washington DC vs a FCS opponent this season.

I look at it like this. You can surrender 95% of the state to the Razorpigs or you can do what they've done in the past. Any exposure in the largest city in Arkansas is a good thing. Maybe you could get Memphis there sometime.

RE: Malzahn's first 2 mistakes
South played a game in Dothan in what is essentially a high school stadium in our second year. It was a home game. All to spread the message. The bad thing is, as is our method of operation, the weather sucked that day and we didn't draw a very big crowd. We were playing a HBCU from Jacksonville, FL. Unfortunatly not one of the bigger named HBCU's.
