That's reality. It's like going to be like riding a roller coaster for the very first time when you're right at the "you must be this tall" mark and you're getting thrown all over the place in your safety harness. It's not going to kill you but it's going to scare the 01-rivals out of you at the same time.

HUGE talent gaps, especially for a program as young as GA St. It's just reality and you really don't get it until you experience it first hand.

It is possible to compete with the big boys. Last year we trailed Bama by 10 late in the 3rd qtr and missed a 4th and goal from the 2 to cut their lead with 8 minutes left in the 4th. We put more points and yards than any other team and they had to let Trent Richardson carry it a season high 32 times.

A moral victory at best, but no doubt we competed with them and didn't make it easy. Any Bama fan will tell you what a frustrating game it was for them.

We got 22 first down vs. Tennessee. If after 3 years of recruiting and a new staff we're not up to par by 2015 and 2016 something is wrong.

What do you consider "up to par"? The Ducks routinely beat established FBS teams worse than Tennessee beat you guys this year. Tennessee beat you by 38 this year, here's a list of the games Oregon has won by 38 or more in recent years.

2012
49-0 over Arizona

2011
45-2 over Colorado
69-20 over Nevada

2010
72-0 over New Mexico
60-13 over UCLA
53-16 over Washington

2009
42-3 over Cal
52-6 over Washington State

2008
66-24 over Utah State
63-14 over Washington State

You guys could make pretty significant strides between now and 2015 and still get absolutely demolished in Eugene.

That would make sense...espeially if Benson is trying to model the SEC, and give the new members early season league home games.

As bad as we both look like right now, would be an infinite tie at 0-0, hope things improve for both of us next year. Should be a good crowd if it pans out.

I'm not going to mention Panama's statement about 22 1st downs against TN (hell of a thing to tout) or saying GA State should be on par in two years (I'll assume he means par in the SBC).

I will give GA State credit for scheduling monstrous programs...I don't think that's a bad thing at all. He's correct about some start-ups not scheduling FBS teams, even when all of their peer members do. Sure, the Panthers will get absolutely demolished when they play Bama, WVU, and the Ducks but it's all but guaranteed TV time and lots of cash. Plus, they'll get credit for attendance #s. I know fighters who beg to fight the guys that everyone knows would kill them. There's something to be said about going toe-to-toe with the impossible.

FCS schools use this as a tremendous recruitment tool. "You'll get to play against VT or another ACC team at their place, in front of 63,000, every year." First of all, some kids on GA State's team were probably recruited and subsequently denied by FBS programs and now they have a chip on their shoulders. Secondly, there's always the hope of beating them...there's really nothing to lose (other than the game). You need to win what, 6 games to be bowl eligible? Hell, play 12, steal a couple and win the ones you're supposed to win and you're golden. We already know you get credit for beating one FCS team.

That's a hell of a schedule but you wanted big boy football so there you have it. Anyway, JSU will feel like a cupcake game after playing some of those other teams.

Up to par is not like THIS year.

Didn't post the Arkansas State game because the list was of teams beaten by the same or worse margin as you were beaten by Tennessee. If I wanted to make the list teams they've beaten by say...four touchdowns or more, the list would have been far longer.

And my point was, I'm not sure you can point to any one game on the schedule, least of all against a top 5 team, and try to use that as an indicator of being "up to par". The point was, your team will most assuredly be vastly improved by the time you go to Eugene, but that game could easily be far uglier than your game in Knoxville this year. Neither game is likely to be a fair measuring stick for your program.

Don't forget that we held them to the same number of first-half points that UGA did.

As for the statement above that JSU should feel like a cake walk after playing the big boys, this only works if you don't play down to your opponent - which we did after the Tennessee game.

Our coaching is horrendous. Our RS Jrs are all part of that 2009 class that was entirely made up of 2 starts and 3 stars. Lets face it, our coaching is horrendous. A good coach and staff and change this next year. We saw it in basketball last year.
