Have to confess NO favorite UC basketball moment. Between Huggy Bear and Nick Van Exell.........Geezzz

Van Exel was pretty fun to watch. The way he would taunt an entire booing Pyramid crowd all the way down the floor(something that would get a quick T these days) only to stop and pop a three from 30 feet out.
Huggins was the only coach I feared back then. Now, not so much.

The "Huggins Rule" and "the most obnoxious fans in America" are some of my favorite Cincy memories.

My favorite Louisville win will be the next one. 05-stirthepot

That game still kills me. Dantonio's first year after we fired Rick Mintor. We knew UL was good, but we thought we had a decent team and would at least keep it close. We didn't realize that UL was a legit top-10 team that year and it got ugly early.

I remember my brother wrote covered the football team for UC's student newspaper at the time, and his story led off with a sentence something like this:

"The score at halftime was Louisville 42 points; Cincinnati, 35 yards of total offense."

I have one for Louisville - 1988 Metro Conference tournament in Memphis. Denny Crum was sitting below us at courside scouting another game (I think it was Florida St/Va Tech), and one of my fraternity brothers went up and asked him for his autograph. Crum gave it to him, then my fraternity brother ripped the paper in pieces right in front of Crum's face.

RE: To UofL and Memphis Fans...
I was a fan of UC growing up, but really wasn't a fanatic until I went to grad school there in 2006. For whatever reason I never realized that UM and UL were our real rivals when I was growing up; I always thought of Xavier and Charlotte first. But I do have these memories:

Louisville - 2008 football in Louisville - Due to injuries we played 4 different quarterbacks, and really hit the bottom of the barrel when Notre Dame transfer Demetrius Jones took over for a series (although he never threw a pass). Back and forth the whole game, a very exciting game to watch (as are most games when Brian Kelly's offense is humming). UC won 28-20. I was in the UC section, and I remember a UL fan got into a fight with a bigger UC fan in our section and I had to stop the UC guy from throwing the UL guy off the edge of the bleachers (we were about 15 rows up).

Memphis - Not a game memory, but I was on vacation in Memphis during the C-USA tournament in 2005. I didn't even realize it was going on. I was touring Sun Studios when they played a song that they called Nothin but a Bearcat. They said Elvis ripped it off for Hound Dog and made it much more famous. That got a kick out of all the Cincinnati fans there. I don't know why but that always stuck with me.

Well that would make you're fraternity brother an ass. Denny Is and was nothing but A class act. I remember his last year at Louisville, when the team was on the road. The Fans gave Denny A standing Ovation when they knew this would be the last time they would see him on their side line coaching.

I think I was at his last home game, didn't he play UAB in the conference tourney for his last game at Freedom Hall? UAB won the game but it didn't matter the whole place gave him a standing ovation for several minutes. The U of L fan I was sitting next to was really torn, he loved Crum but was ready to turn the page

Nah, he was just a young frat boy doing what young frat boys do. You have to understand that Denny Crum was absolutely hated in Memphis. Our radio announcer one stated that if Louisville were playing Russia, he'd root for Russia. That was in the cold war days.

I just happened to walk past Denny Crum at the 2008 Final Four in San Antonio, and I shook his hand. He is truly a class act and I told him that.

Louisville basketball: The Conference USA tournament game in 2004. Back and forth all game. UofL had Dean guarding 6'8 Kirkland... Huggins designed a perfectly play that get Kirkland posted up on Dean. Kirkland posted and hit the game winner. 64-62. UC would win 3 tight games to take yet another Conference USA tournament championship.

Louisville Football: Someone mentioned in earlier, but the 2008 game was my greatest memory from that series. UC was coming of a huge win at WVU, which put the Bearcats in great shape to win the league. Still we had not beaten the Cardinals in a while. It was pouring rain throughout the second half, but there was just this feeling UC would win. I'd bet the Bearcats brought 5000 fans down to that game. After the game, all of them were drenched and none wanted to leave. I remember standing in the concourses with hundreds of Bearcat fans for probably 30 minutes after the game yelling "Ohhhhhhhh, OHHHHHHHHH OHHHHHHHHHH...UC!!!"

Memphis Football: At Memphis, 2001... the Jon Olinger game...I could not even watch it, because it was not on TV. I listened to it on the radio... Olinger had 6 catches for 144... including a 36 yard catch on 4th and 27 on the final drive and a 13 yard TD catch with 4 seconds left. Absolutely, unreal ending.

Memphis Basketball: 2002 in Cincinnati... one of my top 5 sports fan moments... Bearcats playing for a Conference Title. UC playing to keep a #1 seed in the NCAA tourney alive. There are rumors that Huggs may take the WVU job. Memphis leads the much of the game as Logan and Wagner go back and forth. I was sitting in seats literally at the desk next to the basket where Logan scored the game tying free throw line jumper. Logan went coast to coast to tie it at the buzzer and the Bearcat players celebrated like 10 feet from me. I was a junior in high school and ran behind and high fived every student in the front row. UC closed out the game, and conference title in overtime. Fans stayed after the game as the players came out and Huggins addressed the crowd. It was awesome. I got chills. Also brought this really hot girl I was into to the game, so that was cool..ha.

Memphis: In 2004 Anthony Shelman scoring a TD with 37 seconds left to give Louisville a 56 - 49 win in front of a packed Liberty Bowl.

Worse moment of either was 2003 when Memphis came to town and some one in Louisville had The Big East banner pulled over the stadium by plane before the game. Tigers took offense to it and won 37-7.
CJ

Even though we lost that game at the liberty bowl, it was a great one I will always remember. It was one of those times where you knew the last one with the ball would win and unfortunately it wasn't us, but it was fun to watch. Back when we had a football team.

The one in 03 was sweet cause a lot of smack was being talked about CUSA and how glad you guys were to leave---and that freakin plane banner shoving it in our face, and then we go to your place and do what we did. Sweet moment.

RE: To UofL and Memphis Fans...
I was in school between 01 and 05. Those were pretty tight bball games between UC and Memphis with Memphis coming up just short except for the last year, I think.

The one game that stands out to me was in March 04 at UC. UC was ranked and Memphis was going for sole possession of 1st place in the conference. Sean Banks had a great game---he shot a 3 pointer that was wrongfully ruled to be a 2 pointer, and I remember a lot of people being so pissed because it was a tight game where that call could have mattered. In the end, UC pulled it out in the last minute (83-79), but it was an excellent game for both teams.

The other game I remember was in 04 (I think) the next season at the Pyramid. At half time, we were down by two, partially because two of our best players were bogged down with foul trouble. The place was electrified, though, and Memphis ended up wining by 20 points. I think it was the first time we had beaten UC in years.

I believe that was the only time Calipari beat Huggins when they were at Memphis and Cincinnati respectively.

I have a lot of great memories of both series but for my Louisville one I have to go back to one of my first times I saw the Tigers play Louisville in person. It was Feb 19 1977 when I was 11 the Ville came into the Coliseum ranked #8 and two weeks earlier crushed us 111-93 starting a 4 game losing streak. In this game we shut down Daryl Griffith and returned the favor 88-77 and it wasn't even that close and the atmosphere was incredible.

Favorite Tiger vs Bearcat game was a L for us but an amazing game in the GMW tourny in 1993 when UC won 79-72 we had a injury plague season(but still managed a 20-11 season without a big) but the Penny vs Nick Van Exel was nuts.

Louisville v Memphis? Anyone count how many fights there were between football and basketball?

And Elliot ******* Perry. Gawd I hated him and his knee high socks. but man he and LaBradford Smith had a rivalry for the ages.

Everyone loved Huggy Bear. You loved to hate him. Especially when he brought in his team of body builders to bulldoze you.

70-7: don't ever step on our ******* Cardinal Bird and **** won't go down like that. And we promise never to flaunt our conference to Memphis ever again :)

Oh, so you mean the game when a freshmen missed two of three free throws with no time remaining on the line by himself that determined whether or not his team was going to the NCAA Tournament or not then fell to the floor in tears when he missed? Yeah, good choice. I guess that means that Louisville never really could beat a solid Memphis team straight up to chose that game over the some 100 others. SMH

.. dude that was a hell of a game. Came down to the last second. What are you talking about? Don't be butt hurt just b/c we didn't pull it off.
