I tend to agree. The man has baffled me for quite some time.

While you're firing commishioners, go ahead and get rid of Gary Bettman and Bud Selig too. They are all three horrible and are ruining their sport.

The owners love Goodell so he isnt going anywhere. Remember these are the same owners that want you to pay full price to watch preseason games.

if the owners don't have to pay the legit officials a fair market wage then they'll have more money to keep.

then the good football games will trickle down to the consumer....the viewers.

that's how it works!!!

Just posted on another thread, but apparently the NFL thinks the TD was the correct call, but does admit that it should have been an offensive pass interference call on the play.

By that statement, I would just say they agreed with the "process". They said that a call was made on the field - not that it was the correct call - and agreed that there was no concrete evidence to overturn.

Why do we have replacement refs? Oh yeah, the original refs thought $8K a game was not enough.

Referee Wayne Elliott determined that no indisputable visual evidence existed to overturn the call on the field, and as a result, the on-field ruling of touchdown stood. The NFL Officiating Department reviewed the video today and supports the decision not to overturn the on-field ruling following the instant replay review.

Really? I figure, if I knew the rule and knew
1 - there was pass interference and
2 - the defender caught the ball (thus first and determining possession)

How the hell do they not?

This wouldn't be a big deal if M.D. Jennings does what he was taught during a Hail Mary....BAT IT DOWN! Blame refs and replay official for calling a touchdown, but also blame Jennings for not doing his job!

Titans defender did bat the ball down on the Detroit Hail Mary this weekend in Nashville. Batted right into the hands of a Lion in the endzone.

I find it funny that the replacement refs are catching as much grief as they are. It's not like the original refs were that much better. Remember Ed Hocculi (sp?) from a couple of years ago with the blatantly blown call, and accepting the bad call on review? The old refs screwed up penalties, numbers, stumbled over their words, etc. too. It's just that the replacement refs are easy targets for the media to latch onto.

I'll have to disagree here. These replacement refs are much, much worse. Many of them don't even know the freakin' rules.

I do think you are right in that they are probably catching too much grief. It's not their fault they don't have the experience with the speed of the game.

I'll agree on the pass interference, but I did see this video angle of the play that shows it might not be as easy to poo poo the dual possession angle. Keep in mind the catch isn't made until the feet tough the ground. The receivers feet actually touch the ground first.

I just know that there were plenty of instances where these very same types of conversations were being had about the old refs. Over and over again. And that they misinterpreted the rules, or applied them incorrectly. Easy targets, and an easy story line.

The problem is with the union. Don't let the union dictate what the NFL should and should not do. I hope the NFL doesn't cowtow.
