Daily Oklahoman/Barry Tramel: No expansion for a while
Tramel isn't the best source in the world but he is all we have in OKC. Evidently, B12 leadership wants to see how the new proposed playoff works out for a few years before considering expansion.

That makes sense. There's no sense rushing into anything at the moment. Waiting until you have all the facts is a good thing...
It's like that age old axiom...
There are old soldiers, and there are bold soldiers. But there are no old, bold soldiers...

I agree, but I feel that down the road, expansion will happen. At some point the Big 12 will be a 12 team league again.

RE: Daily Oklahoman/Barry Tramel: No expansion for a while
Further expansion back to 12 (or beyond) used to seem somewhat inevitable to me, but I'm not quite as sure as I once was. I definitely think that we're going to see a period of quiet for a while as schools settle into their new homes and new dynamics such as the football playoff unfold.
I just don't see the SEC, B1G, or PAC feeling a big need to expand. Each of them is well entrenched with schools that largely work well culturally and geographically. The Big12 may have a geographic outlier in WVU, but otherwise they should fit right in. The remaining candidates for expansion such as UL aren't compelling enough to drive expansion.
Much is made of WVU's outlier status, and yet with the growing trend for TV viewing to supplant going to events live, I don't think that's as big of a deal as it could be. There are still home games to go to, with attractive opponents such as Oklahoma and Texas. Rivalries will develop out of competition, and many fans will be more than happy to watch them develop from the comfort of their family room, with a beer in one hand and the DVR remote in the other. The round-robin schedule should only help to accelerate the development of rivalries, and help to further solidify the remaining core of the conference.

I like the round robin format, Phogman. The double round robin in basketball is nice too. It's perfect for a conference IMO...
