Exclamation Game #4 - at Butler L 14-35 (0-1, 1-3)
Glad we're finally out of the non-conference portion of the schedule!

Last year, Butler at home was CU's breakout win of the season that led to the 5-game win streak.

Expecting a Butler win this time in Indy, but it might be close.

Anymore injuries resulting from the ODU game? Can the ODU game help us vs Butler?

I don't think being outclassed in every phase of the game like ODU helps at any point.

Butler is much better than its record and lost at a scholarship Western Illinios by only 8. Even though Western is historically a good program, it hasn't been much lately.

I usually agree with Statman, but this time I'll give him a "not so fast, my friend." IMO we probably did benefit from the beat down at ODU. Butler is a another quality opponent, but after last weekend, this weeks game should slow down for us; and Dakota should have gained a lot of confidence. This should be the week that we are able to put together a complete game on O, D, and Special Teams. Chandler is due for a return for TD that should be a gamechanger.

RE: Game #4 - at Butler
I will not even give a prediction other than to say I don't think we will win this game. I am not so sure we will win any other games this year.

I am very disgusted with the preparation and performance of the football team and that is a reflection on the coaching staff. We look worse than we did the first season we had a team. Record will probably be about the same. The O line is horrible. I would not even call them blockers. They sometimes get in the way and maybe somebody trips over them. When we had an O line and could run the ball well we could control the clock and keep some games close against good opponents. This year we can't do that and that is not good news for us.

In the post game the coach always talks about the young men learned something today and it was a tough loss. When is the coach gonna learn something about how to coach and about how to use the talent you have and prepare the team to win games? We are always talking about what the young men need to learn but I don't think the coaches have learned a whole lot in the last five years.

Losing to ODU was expected and we got paid to go there. I can live with that. No problem when you lose to a superior team and program. Losing to Shorter at home and just beating Virginia Wise (at home) was not and should be an embarassment to our program. It surely was to me as a fan. We have our first night game and the stands full of fans (some first time fans) and we lay an egg like that against an inferior opponent. Yeah we made mistakes but where was the preparation for the game.

We need some wholesale changes in football that needs to start at the top. Until that happens we will have a tough time moving the program forward. Last season was a success but I think you had a bunch of talented senoirs that just wanted to win and made that decision that were more of a reason for the sucess than what I heard from many that the program had turned the corner.

Maybe I am wrong and we will win a bunch of games this year. I am just having a tough time seeing that right now.

Someone please tell me who on our schedule we are actually gonna be able to beat this year?

Already looking forward to basketball season.

That game was worse than I expected. I was watching it online and turned if off at the end of the third quarter. Dakota Wolf accounted for 270 of our 365 yards and rushed the ball 31 times and was sacked 4 times. That must change or he's going to be injured as well. The defense gave up over 450 yards total offense and almost 300 on the ground. It all starts up front with both lines. I understand there are some injuries but the play of both lines must improve or we won't win another game.

RE: Game #4 - at Butler
Very disappointing. I understand all of the injuries affecting the offense, but there is absolutely NO excuse for the defense to give up so many yards and points to Butler. I can't imagine that Butler actually came out with a different game plan than what they have been doing all year. We made a Heisman candidate out of their RB today. I know, no Heisman in FCS, but you know what I mean. Our coaches need to have our team better prepared, especially on the defensive side of the ball. I'll never give up on the players, and they have to step up, but they must be better prepared or it's going to get really ugly and have a negative affect on the entire program and the gains that were made years 1-4. Even new lights won't keep fans in the seats.

I was one of the few who actually thought we'd win today, as posted earlier. Oh well, I'll stay out of Vegas.

RE: Game #4 - at Butler L 14-35 (0-1, 1-2)
I personally don't see this team as being worse than year one. I think camelfan is just voicing frustration there. The numbers simply don't back that up. In year one, Campbell couldn't even move the ball.

What I watched on Saturday was a bunch of inexperienced players getting beat up by more experienced upper classman. Campbell TRAVELED four seniors! That is it! Four! You won't find many winning teams with four traveling seniors. The reason there are only four is two fold in my mind. Last years group of seniors started for four years. Games were so tight for the last two seasons that the rotation of players was small. So, in non-scholarship football if you don't play many or most kids leave. The attrition is so high in football already, but without athletic aid its even worse. Also, injuries...by the way Braden is done for the year and his career more than likely.

Butler and CU by the numbers were drastically different. Butler started 7 upper classman on offense while Campbell had FOUR on D. Three of which make home in the secondary so the front seven really suffers. Campbell started three upper classman on offense...Wolf (2nd career start), Jonathon Rodgers a receiver and Curt Odom. The offensive line doesn't have a single playing junior!

So to me its simple...its an age thing and a numbers thing and a talent thing. North Carolina is overrun with scholarship DI/DII programs. After that, what is left? I also contend that this team doesn't have as much talent as you want to suggest for the very reason I just mentioned. The talent pool in NC is diluted.

Campbell didn't win individual battles upfront enough to win the game. Football is simple. Beat the man in front of you and you win, but when overmatched you stand no chance.

This team will get better, but patience will be necessary.

Statman always has an explanation for why we suck. Much of what you say is true but don't you get tired of having to come up with these reasons for why we lose.

You should always find times to get your underclassmen some reps so when it gets their time to play they are ready. That has a lot to do with coaching. We are far from ready. I agree it will take a long time.

How much more time is this coaching staff going to be given though? If Steele is back next year somebody can probably have my seats. I can't give the things away this year. I sure don't need to watch the beating we are getting each week. It gets my blood pressure too high. I think we need to start afresh with someone who has a better understanding of the game. He has gone through a bunch of assistants but maybe the problem is at the top.

What we have is just not working. I am by no means the only person that feels this way.
