Valuing the SBC's ESPN Contract
I know Benson is wanting to renegotiate the SBC's tv deal with ESPN. One way to show our value, aside from pointing to great play against BCS conference schools, would be to show what the ratings are for those SBC games shown on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. Does anyone have these numbers? I know ULM's win over Arkansas should have drawn a solid rating. The same for todays game against Auburn.

RE: Valuing the SBC's ESPN Contract
I doubt that TV execs put much stock into the Belt for those games. I would think that TV execs would believe that any team playing a highly ranked SEC team should bring in decent numbers especially if the game ends up close.

What you really need to do is show conference games that bring ratings or perhaps non conference games against non big name competation such as CUSA, MAC, or MWC schools since then you can actually claim that the ratings were due to the Belt team rather than a ranked SEC team.

How much do SBC schools make in TV money per year on average? And, when does the current SBC deal expire?

Are you suggesting it might actually be about how many people truly watch the game and not media markets???? Performance on the field could actually be a factor???? Blasphemy!!!

I believe around $100k and $150k. I believe the extension that was agreed to under Waters doesn't end for a while. However, with conference shuffling Benson wants to renegotiate the deal to account for the markets we've added. The overall play of the conference should aid in his quest as well.

The extension for the Sun Belt Conference is until 2019-20.

That is a long time to be stuck with a low paying ESPN deal.

Did Waters make that deal??? Hell, did he not think that the league would improve at all.... 03-banghead I'm glad he is gone if that was his idea of progress and good leadership.
