RE: Auburn Announces the MVP of the ULM game
I thought there were some pretty awful calls against ULM, but they got a good one in the 4th quarter with that PI. It was pretty close to being uncatchable and would have been easy for the refs to look the other way and it resulted in a TD. That's the only thing, though. At halftime I said to myself "there is no way the refs let AU lose this"

The refs were really bad in the 1st half but it seemed to be a better called game in the 2nd.

The PI call on the second TD drive was bogus, as was the no call of the holding on the actual TD pass. The other holding call that was missed on the hail Mary was even worse. Auburn might have still scored without that PI call, but the no hold call and Auburn getting the Hail Mary was the difference in that game.

RE: Auburn Announces the MVP of the ULM game
after watching us play at bammer and lexington i've come to the conclusion that sec officials use the 'hand grenades and horseshoes' s.o.p. for the home team. in other words.....no need to measure....that's a FIRST DOWN for the home team.
and i'm never a blame the refs guy.
they kept some uk drives alive with some unbelievable spots last night. when all else fails.....the late flag works too!
or no flag at all.....our first td was a beauty....a fade to the right corner. no flag. no flag anywhere. so we're celebrating and the officials start conferring and next thing you know 6 come off the board. final ruling....illegal formation. we settle for 3.
we understand we're not gonna get breaks. i'd like to see it somewhat level though.

RE: Auburn Announces the MVP of the ULM game
When we should have beaten Bama in 2002(Bama 39 MT 34) they called back a late MT touchdown calling a hold on a player that no one on our roster offense or defense even wore that number.
When we nearly beat Kentucky in 2008(Kentucky 20 MT 14 and we were stopped on like the two yard line as time expired) the refs actually did measure the first down nearly a dozen times and it went Kentucky's way every single time, whether it be giving them the first or us coming up just short. I tried to explain to Kentucky fans why that seemed strange to me, but they couldn't hear it. If you think about the first down measure as purely statistics and logic, the area of the field the ball has to come down in at any given time to call out the sticks is approximately a yard. Call it the last half yard before the line to gain and the first half yard beyond the line to gain, of course this is just an approximation, but hopefully you understand what I'm saying. If you have roughly a dozen plays come down in that one yard stretch of field, the odds that every single time it was Kentucky's ball it would come down in the half yard beyond the line to gain, and every single time it was MT's ball it would come down in the half yard before the line to gain, just doesn't seem right. I can understand them having more size and being able to get the final push, in either direction, better than us, but it still seems hard to believe that 100% of the measurements would have gone their way.
Having said all that, as I frequently say, there are no stories, photos, or asterisks in the record book. At the end of the day one team wins and one team loses.
