Then, after the game, we waited FOREVER in enemy territory for our bus to be able to pick us up. I said right then it was my last trip to Oxford.) I do understand the feeling that we are taking advantage of the fact Ole Miss has a large fan base in Memphis.
egrizzard,

I've been living in Memphis for over 30 years. You need to realize that Oxford is a SMALL town. It doesn't have the streets and roads we have here in Memphis and especially around the Liberty Bowl. Oxford and the University don't have the police force to direct traffic that we have in Memphis.

I have spent some nightmarish (is that a word?) times trying to get off campus and back home after a game, especially a night game. It's taken me hours just to get to Highway #7 only to follow a 32 mile line of solid cars to get to Highway #78 so I could get back home.

Bottom line, Oxford and the University do not have the resources of a city the size of Memphis.

I also found out after some conversation with people I know who work down there that there was a tragic accident in which someone was killed. I heard it was someone attempting to cross the road? I am sure that held up traffic a good bit---

I'm not familiar with the particular event, but trying to cross HWY # 7 after a night game would be akin to stepping out in front of a train clipping along at 60 MPH.

Yeah, a third year pharmacy student was killed after the Memphis game trying to cross Highway 6. The driver was drunk, and word has it, the girl who was killed was a bit under the influence as well. Not a pleasant combination.

I remember that now. I don't use that highway to get to campus. It's only 65 miles from my house going the other way. Sad situation. It only took five students to die in a fiery crash to get Hwy #6 four-laned!
