No, they voted to raise the exit fees. Sorry, you are stuck here now.....
Then I will imagine either heads will roll at Clemson or you are getting ready to see our athletic department have serious financial trouble. IPTAY isn't going to be happy with this one bit.

Probably means 2-3 appearances for ACC football per year on NBC.

Each ACC school is guaranteed to play Notre Dame in football once out of every three years.

That must mean the opponents rotate regularly then. 14 member schools getting to play them once every 3 years. 5 games a year means only 15 ACC games over the 3 year span. That is at least nice if they can't pick and choose their opponents freely.

I am all for adding Georgetown now too. That is a good rivalry with Syracuse in bball and good for college sports. Need another partial to balance it out. I really do hope this is full membership soon though. Would love ND plus another full and then get Georgetown for now and another partial for later.

Why do you need another partial? Outside of Football, there's no real reason to need an even number of teams. It actually evens things out for baseball, since Syracuse doesn't have a team.

So, I'd guess ND schedule:
5 ACC
6 Navy
7 Michigan
8 Michigan St
9 Purdue
10 USC
11 Stanford
12 flexible game

With the whole 5 game agreement it looks like that's paving the way for a full membership including football. Adding ND for football would be HUGE for the ACC. Couple that with Louisville, Connecticut, or someone else - strong in all sports and okay in football - and you'd have two excellent additions and a conference on par with or above the Big 12 and SEC. Add Georgetown and another Olympic sports school and you're the best conference in America by a long shot in basketball.

What is interesting about that is that it means there would only be 1 team that would play ND 2x in a 3 year span. That means that ND playing Pitt for instance every year is over.

That might not be a bad thing for Pitt, Gives us some flexibility to play PSU and WVU in non-ND seasons.

From http://www.fox28.com/story/19522939/pres...oining-acc

Quote:As part of the partnership with the ACC, Notre Dame has agreed to annually play five ACC opponents in football and each conference member at least once every three years.

Their AD said they can take part in the ACC's non-BCS bowl package. Interesting.

My dream scenario would be ND/Louisville as full members and Georgetown/Villanova as partials. Then realign the divisions some to give FSU the Georgia Tech game back every year.

Which means an already weak bowl package gets even weaker because Notre Dame isn't going to be stealing an Independence or Military Bowl bid away from the real conference schools.

We just became the Big East.

Can't find that in the press release -- you got a link?

Weak bowl package? Remember about the upcoming changes - i.e. a playoff? That will change things up a bit - and the ACC package will probably get stronger, with more teams coming - 2 in Pitt and Cuse and 1 partial in ND.

Oh also the new "Exit Fee" for the ACC is $50 MILLION. 04-jawdrop

Yes, a very weak bowl package, We essentially had nothing beyond the Chick-fil-a. The Sun and the Russell Athletic are OK, but there was a clear drop off in both prestige and money once you got past Atlanta compared to the other power conferences..

Don't see where adding Pitt and Syracuse is going to help too awful much, seeing as they were part of an even weaker bowl lineup than the one we have, as was ND For that matter.

So reading the ACC press release:

The conference presidents agreed -- AGREED -- to raise the exit fee to $50M, meaning either some school president held Clemson and FSU at gunpoint and made them sign, OR FSU and Clemson willingly agreed.

So much for this Big XII talk. Dead now. So is the Big East -- I feel sorry for Louisville.

------

For those who actually believed that meeting with ND and selected ACC presidents was about the Orange Bowl, I told you that "presidents don't meet to discuss bowl agreements. Swofford and Swarbick could have easily done that over here at the Washington Duke Inn in Durham. Presidents meet to discuss long term conference academic and athletic membership."

This is why there has been no announcement about the Orange Bowl's other dance partner.

-------

ESPN just got some competition, and the ACC just got them a new TV dance partner -- NBC. More importantly, NBC just received an upgrade in their sports inventory.

-------

I have to believe, while not announced, that there is language in the contract regarding a path to ND's FULL membership.

No, ND will only help. The only reason that the BE got any decent bowls was because of ND. ND will open some doors that may have been closed to just the ACC.

And please, unless you actually "lived" in the Big East, please don't compare the ACC to it. We know exactly what the Big East was and this certainly ain't close.

I see it implicitly stated as well. When the ACC comes calling to UConn or Louisville as the final football members ND will be fully added.

RE: ND will join ACC... agreement 5 football games
Can anyone link me to when the exit fees goes into effect? Also if it was unanimous? I am hearing FSU/Clemson fought this and it was a majority while not being all in.

If ND gets all the perks and isn't made a full member, FSU/Clemson should demand the same. And if the exit fee doesn't take effect right away, they could get out if their demands weren't met.

I for one would like the ACC done right over going to the Big 12. But if the divisions aren't realigned and ND gets perks without becoming a full member, then these teams leaving could very well happen still.

Did any of the powers that be ask SU or any of the other former BE teams what it's like to be in a conference that has a leech attached to it?

All or nothing. Don't like the deal? Enjoy playing SMU and UCF.
