Wow. Local high school game ended at half by officials.
I was attending a high school football game in my new city of residence tonight, where Nodaway-Holt High School was playing West Nodaway High School. Think small. The score at the end of the first quarter was 49-0 Holt. The halftime score was 66-0. The teams headed into the locker room (home game for West), and West fans -- mostly parents, or, at least adults -- began pelting the Holt kids with anything they could find, while yelling obscenities. It wasn't that Holt was running up the score; every starter was pulled after the fourth touchdown. They weren't showboating. Or doing anything I would consider unsportsmanlike on the field. But the fans blamed them, I guess, for revealing how bad their team was.

At any rate, the officials refused to let the bands take the field while they huddled at midfield for nearly 20 minutes, then announced that due to the hostile nature of the fans and the score of the game, they were declaring the game ended. Police surrounded the officials WITH GUNS DRAWN to escort them safely from the field.

When I got home I turned on the 9 o'clock news, which led with the story, and reported the West principal was considering banning fans from attending all remaining home games for the safety of all concerned. Considering West lost last week 87-0, maybe they should just cancel the season.

Gotdamn...

I agree; that ain't worth it. Cancel the season and go back to the drawing board. Try to get better for next year.

Maybe they should try soccer. Those fans are kinda expected to start a riot.

What are the divisions in Iowa? (Like in AL we have Classification by size of school enrollment from 1A to 6A) Were there any unusual circumstances like suspended players or a newly built school (Spain Park here is just getting respectable in football -- they defeated Pratville this week)?

Nope. These are both the equivalent of 3A schools in Alabama. Both have essentially the same enrollment, give or take a dozen students.

And the weird thing is West went to the playoffs last year.

Crazy.

Getting your clock cleaned is one thing. Acting like a bunch of horse's asses and trying to start a riot is foolish in the extreme.

The principal should play their remaining home games in an empty stadium as an object lesson to those nitwits, but both the athletic and band folks need that revenue so much, they'd probably tar and feather him.
