Isn't Pennsylvania and important state for Romney? Wonder why they are pulling ads? 05-stirthepot

Neither were "important" in the sense Romney needed them to win the presidency. Neither has gone Republican in decades.

Would have been great to be in contention there for Romney, but it's not necessary to win them.

VA, NC, Florida, Ohio are the big ones Romney needs. If he loses one of those the road is much tougher.

Yeah...PA is a lost cause. Smart to move on.

Didn't Gore get loads of grief though for not being able to carry Tenessee? Wonder if Romney will get the same if he can't carry Michigan? Although is Michigan his "home" state...or is it California...Massachusetts...damn...the dude lives everywhere...lol

Rove suggested a 3-2-1 strategy back in May for Romney.

1st- Indiana (Check), North Carolina (Check), Virginia
2nd- Ohio, Florida
3rd- Any state as the first 5 make it Obama 272, Romney 266

If you hear him or the RNC pulling out of Ohio or Florida, the election's over.

That win never happen. FL and OH are there last stand.

Florida, Ohio, Virginia, and Iowa are all dead even. The 2 candidates will start camping out in those states for the next 2 months.

If the chips fall right Obama can win without Florida, Romney can't.

If Romney loses Florida, then he loses the presidency. It's really as simple as that. And yes - I am voting in Florida.

Not busting your chops here but if the chips have to "fall right" for Obama to win Florida(I hate this rapper BTW) then doesn't that mean Romney can win?

Or were you saying that if the chips fall right for Obama, Romney can't win...?

I'm so confused. It's Friday.

Sorry. I meant Florida is not an absolute must win for Obama. If he gets Virginia, Ohio and other battlegrounds then he will still win.

Romney must win Florida to win the election.

And now we can add Wisconsin to the "swing states" Romney is surrendering....

Quote:The Romney campaign announced on Friday the beginning of a major advertising campaign in eight battleground states — Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia.

Which is next? I say Nevada.

Romney needs to win Florida AND Virginia AND Ohio AND 1 more (IA, NH, NV, CO). It's a very tall order.

It has tightened in VA: 47.1 for Obama, 45.7 for Romney (average of 37 polls)
NC has pretty much the opposite but Romney is on an upward trajectory.

nope.. Basically, Pennsylvania is still +6 (I think) Obama... where as Michigan/Wisconsin for instance are only +2/+1.

So you put your money in a spot where you're more likely to reverse things, and then if you've got to make a "last ditch" effort in a stronger Blue state.. then you save it til the end and see if you can make inroads then by using the momentum from the "lighter blue"..

"Hey, look Michigan might go Obama, maybe we in Pennsylvania need to reconsider".

Except right now, Virginia is pro-Romney.. I still think it's going to come down to which way Colorado falls.. (at one point I thought it was going to come down to Pennsylvania, but I haven't seen any pundits that thought that way in recent months.)

Exactly. The states Romney and Obama are buying in are the ones needed to win the election. Romney doesn't need Wisconsin, PA or MI if he wins the battle grounds he's putting money in now. The president isn't on the air in Wisconsin either based on what I've read. If the poll stay tight there in the coming weeks they'll buy time.

If Romney wins FL, OH, NC and VA (these are the ones most likely for him to win) all he needs is 4 votes to get to 270. That leaves IA, CO, NH and NV all able to put him over. I'm betting Iowa is the most likely.

Romney will win NC. So you might as well put it in his column. NC is gonna go deep, deep red this election cycle.

So the totals right now are:
Obama - 201
Romney - 206

With 131 up for grabs.

You are correct. Florida would most likely give Obama over 270 and therefore the election. I'm very interested to see how it turns out, especially the voter turnout in metropolitan Miami, a heavily Democratic area of about 5.5 million. That being said, I'm extremely interested to see how the ACTUAL RESULTS pan out. Because honestly, no one can predict everything right. If you ask me, it's better to wait and see what happens than to worry about the possibilities. Sure it's good to know what needs to happen, but it's conjecture right now.
