I actually believe that Obama values the worker over the risk taker who creates the workers job. The government who uses other people's money they have no risk in frittering away and never have to pay back over the entrepeneur who risks his family's fortune and often their house and comfort and future to build a business. I think he is interested in having those who have risked pay more, and those who risk less to pay less. At the time that he said what he said, he was interested in praising the government and the workers over the risk takers and entrepeneurs. Regardless of what he specifically said, that was obviously his intention.

I think those are perfectly legitimate descriptions of what he said and what he thinks and how he governs.

And when business owners and job creators react to his plans by not taking as big a risks, he scratches his head and points fingers at them.

I'm certain you are right about the context/syntax/whatever. It's unlikely in the extreme that Obama thinks no business owner built his/her business. But I STILL hate the quote. Because it implies that we need to be thankful that tax dollars WE paid were used to build infrastructure. It implies that we should be grateful that Government (big G intentional) deemed us worthy enough to be the beneficiary of our teachers' instruction. I don't think I should be particularly thankful or grateful that these things (education, infrastructure, etc.) are in place. I'm the customer. I pay for the benefit of using the freeway, the schools, the courts. Are you grateful that your local power utility has run power lines using fees tacked on to your monthly bill?

And let's face it, even if the government is spending some of my money in a way that may benefit me, it certainly doesn't make me more willing to pay more taxes, or even happy to continue at the current rate, which I think is really what the president was getting at.

I think Obama values anyone who adores him. He needs to choose between 1 business owner or 50 employees. Obviously the 50 employees out weigh the 1 onwer so Obama makes him the bad guy in order to please the 50 who depend on him.
