No. I would normally be more sympathetic. But spending all off-season hearing about how MTSU needed to leave our lousy conference and seeing students protesting to get out of it......

Why? ASU, MTU, WKU and UL all want to leave this conference for greener pastures. You may not like it, but by all accounts the SBC is a lousy conference in football. Unfortunately, they didn't help their argument last night.

Dont worry MT Fan we embarrassed the SBC more. I am sure commissioner Benson was ordering a lot of drinks last night (this morning) in Ireland.

The only reason I would want to leave the conference is to avoid being the last loyal member. I really don't see a great deal of benefit going to join the current CUSA lineup. This is even more true if we pull in App State.

I admit I would have liked to have seen a rearrangement between CUSA and SBC with them trading some members to create geographically sensible conferences. There is absolutely no reason for ECU to be going out to UTEP and no reason for FIU and FAU not to be together.

It is all senseless these days.

No matter where you go...there you are. If UAB got an invite to the SEC tomorrow they would still be UAB. They would get some more cash....but they would be trading any hope of ever being anything in their own conference or pleasing their fans some year.

Would Troy like to trade their SBC conference championships for some cash and a bottom finish? Would they rush the field and say "Yay..we just got PAID for being last!" What is the point in that for fans? You get a new video board so you can watch your team get their head stove-in in Super Hi-Def 3D and super slo-mo? "Look at our cash!"

I think you are better off sticking together and trying to improve the FOOTBALL. If you improve the FOOTBALL then all the other comes along with that. It just takes a little longer. Then you have the cash...and the winning.

Building a conference is harder and slower. But we are America and we aren't patient and we want immediate gratification in the form of CASH. Give me the tv money and I will gladly switch over to be the bottom feeder in a better conference.

As for football, like any conference we are going to have sucky teams. Memphis and UAB sort of come to mind. Not everyone in a conference can end up with a great record.

I wouldnt say that, you are using FCS players and Schollies vs FCS Players and Schollies. Yes the loss was bad and lopsided but against similar program types these things happen.

MTSU losing to an FCS is far worse because MTSU has the advantages of FBS scholly limits and budgets.

I like the fact that you are embarrassed, but GSU has some leeway at this early point. You are in the early growth phases.

Middle however is one of the "upper crust" SBC programs in terms of overall athletics. This shouldn't happen to them.

Perhaps MTSU motto needs to be changed.

"You dont need football to win the Bubas cup, as we prove every year."

As bad as all FBS fans hate to admit it, the top end FCS teams are fairly even with the bottom FBS teams. The only major difference is depth.

I stand corrected....

With all due respect, loyalty goes as far as the next dollar to be made by a university. It’s only the naivety of fans on a message board to suggest some contrived sense of loyalty to the Sun Belt or each other. University athletic programs should only have loyalty to those that foot the bill, alumni, students and fans. And if they are serious about improving the product of their athletic programs, then they will always look at opportunities available to increase visibility and income.

I understand for most of our programs, there is no other conference option available at this time. And I agree that the best bet for the majority of Sun Belt programs is to sit tight increase funding and improve facilities. But this is more of a matter of convenience or lack of options, rather than commitment. There is no loyalty amongst competitors, nor should there be in my opinion. We are all thriving for the same things; improving our programs and marketing ourselves for future realignment. This will only materialize by frequently defeating opponents in the Sun Belt.

You mention that the Sun Belt will be more attractive then CUSA if App. State joins? How so, perception? Not hardly, no matter their history at the FCS level it matters very little to football fans around the country and even less then the Sun Belt.

App. State and Georgia State are outside our immediate region and we have little to no history with either program. For our fans, growing the conference in the immediate region or with programs we have some history with is way more attractive.

I am not naive. I'm certainly familiar with how things ARE. I was referring to how things should be. How things ARE is not good for the sport of college football.

In terms of being attractive with the addition of App State....it is attractive to me because App State plays good football and has good fan support and a good gameday atmosphere. Things college football is supposed to be about.

Take ECU. Great gameday atmosphere, great fan support, good football. But they are not wanted by anybody. That's silly.

What made college football great were things like Oklahoma/Nebraska. History, tradition, heated rivalry, big local crowds, good football. They became national programs because of those things. They would have little chance of doing that if they were starting today....and it doesn't really matter much to them anyway...obviously.

McNeese has beaten FBS teams before... They beat Louisiana in 2007 (quite handily, that was when UL sorta stunk).

Yeah, thats not gonna happen. McNeese's best team in 20 years was uttrly destroyed in 2002 by WKU 34-14.

I know one thing ECU fans are glad that Stockstill didn't accept the job after the 09 season. Since then he has had an 8-18 record.
