Benson: Big East not a power conference
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sun-belt-se...ncaaf.html

Sun Belt Commissioner Karl Benson wants to limit the schools in the Sun Belt to scheduling just one guarantee game against the higher-profile schools per season. He believes this will help the conference's profile. He wants more games scheduled against those in "peer conferences" - CUSA, MWC, MAC, and Big East. Yep, he said it.

Quote:'''The goal of the Sun Belt right now is to be the best of the quote, 'below the line conferences,''' Benson said in a recent interview. "There's going to be five (conferences) above the line and five below the line. The Sun Belt's goal is going to be to compete with those other conferences.''

Shots fired.

RE: Benson: Big East not a power conference
Anybody that puts the Big East in the sphere as the Sun Belt, C-USA, MWC, and the MAC is either crazy, on drugs, or really confused about who plays in each conference.

Yes, but $hit like that sticks and hurts an image, if the media makes this a poster child issue. Maybe the Big East needs blackball playing Sun Belt teams.

Yes, here's his bio:

Quote:Karl Benson (born December 1, 1951) is the commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference. Previously, Benson was the commissioner of the Mid-American Conference from 1990 to 1994 and the Western Athletic Conference from 1994 to 2012. Benson graduated from Boise State University after transferring from Spokane Falls Community College; he played baseball at both colleges.

He now ranks right up there with Andre Ware as a traitor to his school.

lol...earlier this year year he thought he was going to poach ECU and S Miss from CUSA. Obviously Benson has been confused about the conference hierarchy for some time now.

RE: Benson: Big East not a power conference
It's a ridiculous statement, but shouldn't be all that surprising. This is just about Benson trying to raise the profile of the Sun Belt. Just like how Aresco is out there right now saying the Big East is part of the Big 6 power conferences. Of course we all think Aresco is right and Benson is crazy, but the point is both Benson and Aresco are just doing their jobs, which is to fight for their conference.

However, aside from his Sun Belt propaganda I like the change in scheduling philosophy. No FBS school should be signing up for 1-0 scheduling agreements with anyone unless you must to fill in a late hole in the schedule. Part of why many of the "Titans" of college football are able to maintain their status is that they've always got 7-8 home games and their entire OOC schedule is made up of cupcakes.

Fake UL fan rage....since when has Wilkie ever been concerned before about "words" hurting the Big East "image"?
