As soon as I saw North Dakota St. ranked over Cal, Ohio St., Air Force, Arizona State, Navy, Arizona, Washington St., Oregon St. (suggesting NDSU would run the table against those teams if scheduled back-to-back-to-back-to-back...) I realized RealTimeRPI is every bit as legit as the Sagarin Ratings.
North Dakota State did dominate Big 10 Minnesota 37-24 on the road last year. They would have been favored over some of the schools above, but just because you are ranked ahead of a team doesn't mean you run the table against all of them. North Dakota State was a solid team last year.
.
NDSU was no doubt a good football team, the best in FCS, but they didn't exactly dominate a 3 - 9 Golden Gopher team. They had 44 more total yards and actually 1 less first down. They scored on 2 defense TD's also. I doubt they would have been favored over any of the forementioned schools. They could possibly have beat a couple but if that was their scheduled opponents they would've had a losing record against them.

RE: Sagarin Ratings are out
I think the main idea here is that based on these FCS/FBS intermingled rankings, the top FCS team would be 4th in the perceived worst conference in FBS. So even your best wouldn't make a bowl.
That said, I'm all for adding ASU and GSU. They have the potential to be top dogs in the sunbelt after a few years and would be good name brands for the conference.

I wonder why when Sagarin and other sports writers and publications say it is, it isnt so?
While I think App and GSU are definately the exception to the rule, and better than most people here think, I still don't think if you played a full SBC schedule you'd be successful right away. I think it'd take a year, or three to get situated. And Sagarin really isn't the best source even if you feel you're right. It's just too difficult to compare when 9 times out ten during the season, we don't play eachother. So to me, its just a guess at best.
I think App. State would finish somewhere in the middle of the SBC first year....And thats being generous because any other FCS teams I would put in bottom half.
I agree with that as well that Ga Southern and App State would finish mid pack our first year in the SB with 85 scholarships. I think it is reasonable to think we could beat MTSU, La Monroe, NTexas, FAU but have a tough time against Ark St, Lafayette, FIU.
Aw, c'mon now. The Leopards aren't even in FBS. I think you could take them, especially if you didn't have to go and play up there in Eaton.
