Let me get this straight. This comes from the same person who asked me if I knew about Marshall's history. Marshall has plenty of tradition whether you want to admit it, or choose to overlook it. And yes, D 1-AA is very much a part of that tradition. Marshall had a 21-2 record in the playoffs, and went 2-4 in the D 1-AA Championship games.
Then in 1997, '98 and '99, Marshall (with it's roster full of 1-AA scholarship players) came into the MAC and beat Toledump by a combined score of 95-44, winning all 3 years. Throw in 2000 and 2001 and we still outscored you 131-127.

Talking about your first 3 years back in the MAC, while definitely good years, does not give you tradition. Your I-AA tradition is only good for I-AA. Who is to say that Toledo or another MAC school would not have done the same thing in I-AA?

As for coming into the MAC with I-AA scholarships...some of those players were only there because the I-A schools would not take a chance on them with their grades and Marshall said "come here and our goal is to move to D I-A in the next couple of years." That way they got to finish their career at the I-A level.

Plus, think about it....what student-athlete playing at the I-AA level would not have wanted to go to Marshall when they were at that level. All you had to do was look at Marshall's facilities compared to other D I-AA schools and there was no contest. Marshall was playing at the I-AA level with a I-A program. (Don't let that go to your head though!)

Yes rocketfootball, championship games count as playoff games. I should have said their record is 23-6 in D 1-AA playoffs, to include 6 championship games.
