Not only do I think this is good for his development but also in case Tino was to get injured. But I think Voytik should get get some reps in the first half of the Youngstown State and Gardner-Webb games and play most of the 2nd Half of those games(if they are blowouts).

RE: Voytik
If he keeps progressing like he has been, I could see him becoming the starter for the last 5 or 6 games.

We're not talking national championship or anything, but if Pitt just gets COMPETENT play from the QB, I think you guys contend for the BE title... ZERO TDs would be OK for you if it came with ZERO INTs, IMO. You can get away with running the ball and playing good defense - that should win you just about all of your BE games, right?

RE: Voytik
I think our schedule looks like this from here:

Losses to VT, ND.
Wins against Youngstown, GW, Buffalo, and Temple.

That leaves 6 games against: Cincinnati, Syracuse, Louisville, UConn, Rutgers, and USF.

I could easily see this season shaping up as 10-2. I realize that this is being optimistic, particularly with a first year coach, however, it's completely plausible given this schedule. Nobody is going to smash our team around. With a few breaks we could win all the Big East games and OOC besides VT and ND.

The worst I can really see this team going is 7-5. That includes all the wins and losses listed plus 3 wins against the other 6 Big East teams. I think that's a pretty fair assessment of what could happen this season if breaks don't go our way.

As for Voytik, I think if he plays you need to expect freshman mistakes from him. If Tino Sunseri plays, you have to expect freshman mistakes from him. Voytik has the ability to get better. Tino has been a starter for two full seasons at Pitt and hasn't progressed. He's still making freshman mistaes regularly and has physical limitations that we all have seen. While I still expect Chryst to start Tino, this is the reality of the situation he has to work with. It'd be interesting to see him not afraid to start Voytik.

I agree with you, ndlutz - Pitt should end up between 7-5 and 10-2 (but I disagree on the two: I think Cincinnati will be a bigger challenge than Va Tech because it's a road game).

Remember Zach Collaros is gone, Isaiah Pead, was drafted by the Rams in the second round. Tight end Adrien Robinson went to the Giants in the fourth round. Defensive tackles Derek Wolfe (Broncos) and John Hughes (Browns) were drafted in the second and third rounds.

That's a lot of playmakers to replace.

So, do you folks actually think it's likely that Voytik won't be redshirted this year?

Also, do you know the rules? Is he allowed to be redshirted but then allowed to dress if there's, say an injury to Sunsiri or Anderson?

It is exciting to find that he already seems to be gaining the confidence of Chryst's staff though. It bodes well for next year and a good competition with Savage as the starter that year, if nothing else.

RE: Voytik
I highly doubt Voytik will be redshirted this year. He may be redshirted next season w/ Savage, Anderson, and Chapman on the roster(assuming Chapman signs on the dotted line).

I don't think he redshirts and quite frankly I think he sees playing time.

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea. Temple is weak. Nothing more to say about it.
