Of course we expect results. My point was, we didn't get them. Pre-West, West, or post-West.

Tommy West may well be an atrocious defensive coordinator, but looking at a single year in a vacuum doesn't tell you anything about West OR UAB.

No, I was commenting on UAB.

I only saw USM once this year, and I wouldn't single out the defense, because they didn't seem to do much of anything well.

Our D would have sucked this year with the old regime in charge. Zero healthy talent on that side of the ball outside of Collins and Wilson.

Needless to say, the lack of competency on offense certainly hurt the D, as well.

That said, West had no business being our DC. I've always said that if I were in the search committee last year, Ellis would have been back on the plane for Columbia the second he said "Tommy West."

No one is without blame. Our punter pretty much blew the Louisville game. And I like Tommy West. But I will single out our defense as by far the worst squad on this season's team. At the start of conference play, when we had a chance to turn things around, the D basically just decided they didn't want to. I can't completely blame them... our D looked less intimidating than Destrehan High walking off the bus. Neither the talent nor the effort were in place, and that includes Jamie Collins, a man who's spent so much time with his face in turf that he should consider heading up to Starkville to join their golf course management program.

That defense was atrocious and an embarrassment to the university's tradition. Tommy West was a terrible hire. Todd Bradford's defenses looked like the '85 Bears compared to this year's defense.

They did nothing well.
