Triple A is right that a move can bemanaged. But i think Cyber's idea is a good one. Open an office in NY and call it a day. That's what many companies do. There are advantageous reasons to be located in Rhode Island legally and probably for tax purposes.
But run the business out of NYC if you want.

They could do what a lot of companies are doing now, leave the support staff in the lower rent area, Providence, and put the executive staff in the high rent area, NYC or CT. Technology makes that simple to do now.

Put it at 30 Rock! Buy permanent space in Times Square! Rent out top boards on every NYC taxi starting next Sept. Sponsor the programs on Broadway. Billboards from Queens to the Adirondacks!

Make NYC the righteous and permanent home to the conference.

And create a new mascot for the conference...a giant Doberman...with gnarly teeth...and put that sum-b#%#% on the Empire State Building every year during Media Days!

Conference slogan:

"We're headed your way, you d-bags! We're gonna beat your %#%#, burn your stadium, and pee on your cheerleaders! And if there are any mesquite-grilled turkey legs left we're gonna eat them...bones and all!"

Ok, except we pee on their male cheerleaders but "ravish" the females.

The more I think about, I think the symbolism of moving from Providence is invaluable. It tells the sports media world and the new schools that the old ways of doing business are over. I don't think they will abandon the old guard teams but they won't have the balance of power like they have in the past.

Thats why many think that is something the conf will eventually end up doing next summer/early fall...as the Conf will be RELAUNCHED in a whole new light (12 team football conf...two divisions...spread NATIONALLY over 4 time zones, etc...), and yes, symbolism over substance, even for a HQ location...can go a long way in perception....and in this case "piggy-backing" off the RELAUNCH of basically a brand new conference in Fall 2013.

Interesting points. I could definitley see that occuring as a total integrated plan of rebranding with commercials, ads, press conference, press tour, and headquarter move all being part of the total package.
