An article by Harry Minium came out today about a possible Home and Home series with Virginia Tech, starting in 2017.

If we give Tech 2 for 1 in football, they better provide a 2 for 1 matchup in Norfolk for mens basketball

Tech wouldn't come to Norfolk until probably '18, '19. That's plenty of time expand the stadium because they sure aren't playing in a 20k stadium.

I don't really blame Beamer; if I were him, I'd do the same thing. Traditionally, C-USA schools aren't Top 25 teams. Why fill your schedule and travel around to play Marshall/UAB when you can get traditional powerhouses.

I am really glad we're "movin on up" though. Shoot: just the fact that Frank Beamer is talking specifically about our program is awesome. I think this has surprised many of us (including myself) at how quickly this has occurred.

And we need to stay the same as we've always been: not being satisfied. So once we schedule VT, let's not stop there. Let's beat them.

London's been killing it lately down here, maybe Beamer sees this as an opportunity to strengthen his reach in the 757. Not that Tech can't get players down here, but lately the studs from Oscar Smith have been arriving at UVA.

Should make a basketball series a lock sometime in the near future.

Which surprises me. No slam on the kids at Oscar Smith but they are not UVA caliber students, which leads me to believe UVA has lowered their standards. Facts are Facts, and I do not mean this in a negative way.

You think that some recruits eyebrows are raised.
Wilder will be able to say... yeah, UVA, VA Tech, ECU, Navy @ Fed Ex, Maryland, etc etc.

I know someone who teaches at Oscar Smith, l'll ask about that. I would assume that their academics have improved somewhat with the committment that school has made to the football program and all the attention that it receives. Not to name names, but their most high profile kids that eventually ended up at UVA strike me as kids capable of making it at UVA.

I know they had a kid last year that could have played anywhere in the country if he had made the grades, so at least they have some standards.

Greenberg's departure likely opened the door again for a H&H series in basketball at some point in the future, hopefully around the same time as the tentative football match-up. Johnson had a humble start to his coaching career, so I don't see him exhibiting the same "high and mighty" bias that dear old Seth treated us with. I'm looking forward to the possibility of ODU lining up against Tech in the top two revenue sports. Imagine the amount of fans making the respective trips...imagine the revenue. We'd be fools not to invest substantial interest and effort in the pursuit of this.

Late to the party guys? UVA lowered their academic requirements in the 80s so George Welch could build a better football program. Their academic standards for athletes is lower than Tech's. Been that way for close to 30 years now.
