I knew this would happen as soon as the stadium debacle happened. Robert Witt being promoted to Chancellor was probably the final nail in the coffin.

This is going to suck. Of course we have had to bend over so much in the past we have learned to keep the KY near by!

Bammer gets to hand-pick the new president. Football lease expires in 2013. What happens next?

This is highly unlikely, but the best-case scenario for us is a Mackin-equivalent; someone who has a degree from UAB and a corresponding desire to see the university thrive in ALL aspects--not just hold the company line of "research, medicine, to hell with athletics and the undergrad side!"

A Bammer plant at this point would be the atomic bomb to any progress made over the last 10 years.

There hasn't really been a "to hell with the undergraduate side" lately, much to the chagrin of some at UAB. As someone who works at UAB, I actually want an outsider. All the leadership at UAB has been here forever. The place needs a little fresh blood and different perspectives.

Does anyone here think we're gonna get a pro-UAB replacement?...

Yeah...

We were in a very fragile situation, and this is their chance to pummel us.

I agree... Except that the interviewers won't pick someone who as a goal want UAB to be the best they can be. They'll pick someone who can maximize profits and funnel them to T-town. We're ****ed.

Again with the "money funneled to Tuscaloosa" meme. This does not happen. It just doesn't. Stop saying it.

I think they will pick someone who will want to see UAB succeed. Will athletics be prime on their agenda? No. Will they actively seek to demote or destroy athletics? Maybe, but I actually kind of doubt it. But, everyone here is thinking about it in the realm of how UAB has been treated in the realm of athletics, but this is so much bigger than that.

Well sheot.

Hard to imagine that this will be a positive change.

I held CG in high esteem. I'm afraid we'll get a UAT toady in her place.

UAB athletics can't exist without the discretionary funds from the presidents office. Dr. Garrison has been a very strong proponent of growing UAB athletics. All it takes is for a new president to not be a strong proponent and it's gone. Look no farther then what the BoT did to UAH hockey when they got a chance to change presidents. The hatchet man they picked to do so is now in a position to do the same to us.
