RE: America the Fat
I've lost 35lbs since the middle of February, and am 4 lbs under my BMI recommended weight, but I'm trying to remedy that.

Thank you. The key was patience. Adopt a conservative approach you can live with in the long term. I actually hit my target about 6 weeks ago, and am now maintaining it. Usually bouncing around 1-2 lbs of it.

I think that's really the key. Small choices about what you buy, eat, and do add up. My wife and I maintain our fitness pretty easily now but we know it will be harder as we get older (we're in our late 20's). So we start those "lifelong" habits now. We don't buy snacks or icecream at the market, we don't drive anywhere in the city that is less than a mile away, and we make sure that we "do something athletic" at least twice a week, even if we can't make it to the gym with our work schedules.
Having a dog has helped as well since it guarantees we get outside every evening.

Bad consequence of gov't involvement in health care. Gov't claims about a healthy diet are anything but, they were inspired by politics. That's another reason why Obamacare is destructive.

Yeah. Too many people jump off a cliff and drop a lot of weight fast, but they're doing things they have no chance of keeping up for long, and put it back on.
They say bad habits die hard? Actually, ALL habits die hard. That's why it's so important to set good ones.

RE: America the Fat
If you want to see something really depressing, look at projections for obesity rates a couple of decades from now (projected to be anywhere from 42-50% by 2030). Healthcare costs are going to swallow up so much of spending (both public and private) that there won't be much left for other things. As individuals spend more on health care (and as regulatory agencies such as the FDA keep waging war on small farms and businesses), they'll have less money to spend on wholesome food and fewer choices, meaning they'll just end up eating more fast food and processed foods, which will only exacerbate the problem. Of course, Republicans won't cut a dime from defense and Dems won't cut a dime from social engineering programs, so we'll just have to keep borrowing to pay for the burgeoning gov't healthcare costs. History dictates that interest rates will rise at some point, sending our debt service through the roof.
I'd say stick a fork in us, but you'd probably need a Ginsu knife to cut through all the gristle.

I don't take a "conservative" approach to anything. As we know from the other thread, the "conservative" approach is to allow people to go hungry.

So what does the Bible tell you what the diet should be? I know there is stuff in there about it. Just wondering.

Which I wouldn't mind if it didn't usher in a whole slew of other expensive social problems.

Well, I COULD eat like a garbage dump and live like a piece of furniture and expect my home owners' insurance to pick up the tab for the EMTs having to take a wall down to get me out.
But my nanny, the gub'ment could take care of me, since I clearly have a disability.

I don't suppose obesity determinations are the same as they used to be? Not that it isn't a problem, I just wonder how much worse it really is than before.

Texas is 30%? Here in El Paso every woman has an ass so wide they should paint double white lines on them. But the times I was in Houston, Corpus and Austin the women were fine.

I've taken up running in the morning before work. I thought I was going to hate it but I actually feel energized at work now. Still working the junk food out of my diet (that's my biggest weakness).

RE: America the Fat
Lost 95 pounds in a year and I work out 6 days a week now. I don't wanna hear excuses, if you are fat, your health insurance premiums should be doubled. I worked my ass off to get healthy, I don't wanna pay for someone to get diabetes medication if they can't get off their fat ass and walk a few miles after dinner every night.
