That would be very funny.

I am, however, not optimistic that in the process of becoming acclimated to the local scene, Mr Cattles will magically develop a smoother and more conversational delivery.

Nick appears to me to be a "read the copy" announcer. He is probably a very good one.
I don't know his background, but he also seems to be an investigative reporter, or at least wants to be one. Locally, that is of minor import most of the time.

IMO, in order to offer something more than the myriad of what's already out there nationally; the local sports guy needs to be:
1.part sports analyst
2.part talk show host
3.part entertainer
4.part national reporter
5.part local reporter.

Nick has 1 and 4. He will get #5 soon enough.
I have my doubts about #2, and I am reasonably sure he will never have #3.

That about says it all.

"Your Home for Major League Baseball and the Norfolk Tides"...and all of the talk is about the NFL.

Like I said.......

RE: Nick Cattles?
Did anyone hear the show yesterday? He went more than an hour (I gave up at 5:15 pm) talking about an NFL guy I honestly never heard of and his decision to play or not because of his previous concussions. He went on and on and on. It was absolutely awful.

Certainly a topic worthy of discussion, but he again went waaaaaaay tooooooo loooooong with it. I'm hating him more and more with each show and I really do want to like him. 03-pissed

I will be interested in the first ARB and Nielsens on Cattles.

Probably, 94.1 is commissioning "overnights" (specific single ratings) to be done on the new show. We won't know what those numbers are, but they will shape the Cattle show's evolution.

Today's show Nick qsaid that everyone's been asking about college football and for some reason they have "strategically" not talked about college football. In the next week, they will talk about nothing but college football. Let's hope they talk about our beloved Monarchs.

Tonight he did mention ODU basketball in Greece, ODU Football latest ranking and ODU field hockey rankings and history. That's a great change!
I sent him this CUSA board link via twitter.

His coverage of the Sacramento kings move to the 757 was AWESOME. 100% behind the move. Just on his show yesterday this guy rocks as he finally has that local feel

Agreed. This was certainly a topic worth taking the time to talk about.

But the NCAA eigth grade thing was not worth more than 10 minutes and he spent waaaaaaay over an hour.

I appreciate in depth talk, but it has to be about something that is relevant to your audience. In New York, it is OK to talk in detail about New York teams, but not about the offensive line of the Wisconsin Badgers. He is emphasizing "national" stories but they are weak stories to begin with. Austin Collie? NCAA and eigth grade contact? 15 minutes of time MAX on those.

It needs to be multiple topics. How about the fact that Todd Frazier of the Reds may "steal" the NL Rookie of the Year from Bryce Harper?

Nick seems to be talking about more local sports stories of late. Someone must have put a bug in his ear.

Yup, started listening in when I can. Change when it goes to baseball... as I just don't get into it.

He still kind of reminds me of listening to Captain Kirk though. =]

Baseball has been the only active sports since he got the gig. What other extra fluff do you want him to hammer into the ground?

He had Wood Selig on yesterday. He will be a weekly feature. They talked about the pending conference move and finding homes for the sports that CUSA doesn't sponsor.

Anything more than we don't already know about that? Like where field hockey might land up. Was the stadium mentioned?

Also, anyone know what time the Bobby Wilder segment is on tonight?
