MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- Marcus Barnes had 31 points and hot-shooting Northeastern spoiled West Virginia's home opener, beating the Mountaineers 91-84 Saturday night.
Barnes had seven 3-pointers and Northeastern (2-2) made 13-of-25 attempts from beyond the arc.
Jose Juan Barea had 19 points and 10 assists, and the Huskies took care of the ball when it counted, turning it over just three times in the second half.
Trailing 40-35 at halftime, Northeastern found a rhythm from 3-point range in the second half.
The Huskies made 7-of-11 attempts from beyond the arc in the second half, and consecutive 3-pointers by Barnes gave the Huskies a 51-49 lead with 16 minutes remaining.
Northeastern's lead swelled to 82-72 with just under four minutes remaining on two free throws by Cornellius Wright.
West Virginia (1-1) pulled to 83-78 on two baskets by Drew Schifino and a pair of Tyrone Sally free throws with 1:39 remaining. But a Barnes 3-pointer seconds later effectively put the game out of reach.
Wilson added 15 points for Northeastern.
Schifino led West Virginia with 20 points and Sally had 18. Patrick Beilein scored 14 off the bench for the Mountaineers.<
