I don't see that being broken only because 6.5K over capacity is tough for CMU even with additional student seating plus some luxury seating.

Do remember that the CMU stadium doesn't have concourses, etc. like say Detroit's Comerca Park which is well suited for several thousand standees.

CMU fans were outnumbered at all the previous CMU/MSU games.

All of the previous CMU-MSU games were played at East Lansing. None have been played at Mt. Pleasant.

That said, props to CMU for winning 3 of those games. That's a helluva of an accomplishment against a Big Ten team.

They won't have a problem with the 6.5k.

They bump up to 33500 capacity when they use the grass seating. ie-standing room only

WMU will do something similar in 2015 with the two grass areas at waldo.

I was up at Kelly-Shorts this summer (no jokes about invading enemy territory) and had forgotten that they have at least one grassy knoll by the football building which can be used for standing room.

Don't remember if the place where I entered (the other end of the FB building) is a grassy knoll or simply an entrance.

RE: CMU to set FB attendance record vs. MSU
Toledo could break the Navy record vs. BG if they're 2-0. Home opener vs. BG will have 30k regardless. So 2-0 coming into a rivalry home opener... It's doubtful but possible.
Cinci will have over capacity also.
Akron and ball state will be under 20k because they're week games.
CMU might be decent weather pending. Coastal Carolina slightly more because it's our second home game.

I'd like to think Toledo will lead the MAC in attendance this season. OU and WMU are our competitors.

Highly doubtful that your BGSU game will be over 30k. It's probably been almost a decade since that game surpassed 23k. Why would it be any different this year?

Toledo didn't even hit 29k last year when they played Boise at home...despite the fact that they were 1-1 heading into the game after a 5 point loss at Ohio St.

Now, your Cincy game...yes I would say that is possible. I would expect there to be a decent amount of Cincy fans at the game.

And yes, I would certainly expect your attendance to be in the top 3 of the league in regards to average home game numbers.

I would say it looks like this:

1. CMU
2-4 Ohio, Toledo, WMU in no particular order

thanks for the compliment but i don't see how we could be any competition for you, attendance-wise. sure, we should have big crowds for our games, but our stadium only holds 24,000 whereas yours is much bigger, i'm sure.

Okay, say me the headache and explain what you mean by the bolded text. Should we not schedule BCS teams because they might bring more fans? 03-puke Do you think we should have hosted the game at Ford Field? 03-puke

BG@UT can't break the MAC single game attendance record, because the portable seating is not allowed. The Boise State attendance would have been higher if it had been a Saturday night game instead of a Friday HS FB night.

That's right. I totally forgot that it was on a friday night last year. That stinks.

I'm just sayin' hosting a Big Ten team that's close by has its pros and cons.

We had a contract for Wisconsin to play in DeKalb in 2009. The contract was renegotiated and we ended up playing the Badgers in Madison in 2009 and in Soldier Field in 2011. No doubt in my mind there would have been several thousand Wisky fans in Huskie Stadium had the game been played in DeKalb.

I think it's great that CMU got a home game with MSU. Like I said, I wish U of I would give us a 3 for 1. Hell, they'll only play us once every nine or ten years.

Hoping for a win for the Chips on September 8th!

Idk. BG will easily fill seats, just as UC would. It's 25 miles away. It's early so both teams will be believers. It's on a Saturday, not a week day... Most of the time we play BG one of the teams is out of the race or it's last in the season and bitter cold. Last year was the first year in a long time the game wasn't played in November and there was 24k there in the DOYT. UT had 25k for each Miami and EMU last year. 26k is capacity. 30k is so so so possible. Probable IMO.

Ummmm.... Attendance at the EMU game was just under 23,000 and even those numbers were inflated.

Yeh, we don't travel well...Hell, we don't travel well to our OWN stadium, much less an opponents. Hopefully that changes with having a competitive team in consecutive years. I'm getting kind of sick of being the laughingstock of the NCAA when it comes to attendance.

Yeah, I just looked it up. But that was a great day game attendance. Good student turn out and evenly spread throughout the stadium. Still doesn't hurt my point that BG could easily break 30k pending on how we do in the first two weeks.

What happened?

Fire marshal says so. Also, the students tore down the goal posts, resulting in some serous injuries. One person hurt their neck/back seriously - possibly broken/paralyzed?

don't have to worry about OU breaking attendance records this year, attendance will likely be down in spite of expectations being up. The 3 biggest rivalry games- Marshall, MiamiOH and Temple are all away or discontinued. Here's their home slate-

- New Mexico State
- Norfolk State
- Buffalo
- Akron (homecoming)

Weekday November MACtion
- EMU
- BGSU

the marketing dept will have to earn their keep with a schedule that exciting.

the crowds will be fine despite the schedule and maybe because of the schedule. we OHIO fans don't always get the chance to see our football blow out six opponents and we certainly have the opportunity to do that this year. i would anticipate only BG giving us any real trouble at home this year.

yeah, ohio fans come out for winning teams and miami and marshall. that "schedule" will keep ou winning.

toledo used to play bg on a saturday midseason or so and get huge hyped up crowds. when espn started showing mac games about a decade ago the games were moved to late season midweek or friday usually around thanksgiving. that hurt attendance (colder, classes/work, diminshed interest if the home team was having a poor yr, option to watch at home).

the game this yr will probably not be on national tv, and is both the home opener, the rivalry game, and on a saturday night. both teams will probably be good but already have a loss. attendance could range from 25k to whatever the fire marshall will allow.
