Carden Posts Career-High 12 Saves, VCU battles Dayton to 1-1 Draw in Regular Season Finale

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Carden, who registered a career-high 12 saves, faced 35 shots.
Conrad collected a team high four shots with three on goal, and also added an assist. Meanwhile, Granados fired two shots (both on frame) and scored her sixth goal of the season.

VCU is 10-2-3 in its last 15 matches (dating back to Sept. 2), outscoring opponents 25-9 during that span.

QUOTABLE:
"It's hard leaving Dayton with a tie today. We were able to go up early and keep the lead until the last minutes of the game. Dayton's late rally to tie makes it fell a little like a loss but we can hold our heads high because Dayton is a great program with a tradition of NCAA appearances. The tie is not how we wanted it to end but we are playing well and feel confident heading to the conference tournament."
-VCU Co-Head Coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak

WHAT'S AHEAD:
VCU begins Atlantic 10 tournament play on Thursday, Nov. 1 at Rhode Island. Seeding has not yet to be finalized at this time.

Rams Drop Overtime Heartbreaker to La Salle 2-1 in A-10 Championship Match
[Image: a10champ.jpg?max_width=800&max_height=450]

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Carden, Granados, Johansen, junior Brianne Moore and senior Carly Edgcomb were all named to the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team.
VCU outshot La Salle by a narrow 15-14 margin, including a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal.

Johansen tallied her second goal of the tournament and third goal of the season.

Carden finished with six saves for the Rams.

VCU lost a heartbreaker in the conference championship match for the second straight season. The Rams fell to nationally ranked and top-seeded William & Mary in overtime of last year's Colonial Athletic Association title game.

QUOTABLE:
"We're just so proud of every member of this team. We've continued to get better with every game. They have embraced a style of soccer that has required both grit and sophistication. We would have loved to bring back the title today, but I'm proud of what we've accomplished this season. It has been an honor to coach these women and we're grateful for what they've given to this soccer program."
-VCU Co-Head Coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak

Women’s Soccer Announces 2013 Recruiting Class
[Image: 2013Recruits.jpg?max_width=800&a...height=450]

Meet the 2013 Class (.pdf) (http://www.vcuathletics.com/sports/wsoc/...0417mc3cyf)

RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth University women's soccer program has will welcome seven new faces this fall as the Rams announced their 2013 recruiting class.

Harper Coyer, Carson Cyphers, Emma Halvorsen, Dallas Nicole Smith, Ana Clara Vale Lopes, Rebecca Von Bereghy and Alexandra Wong have all signed National Letters of Intent and will join VCU on the field next fall.

"We are very excited to introduce a class of players that will continue to move our program in the right direction," said Co-Head Coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak. "We are adding some world class players and we couldn't be happier. Our priority was to be able to address some immediate needs caused by the departure of a talented senior class, however I think we're really getting a whole lot more than just that with these seven players.

"It has been a long recruiting process and we've really gotten to know all of these girls. I know that each one of them is an extraordinary person who is goal driven, shares our values, and loves VCU. It's going to be exciting to see this incoming group make their mark, and they will have every opportunity to do so once camp begins in August."

VCU hires Lindsey Vanderspiegel as women's soccer coach[Image: WSOC-VanderspiegelHiring053013-Main.jpg?...height=450]

Virginia native Lindsey Vanderspiegel will take over the reins of the VCU women's soccer program, announced today by Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin. She becomes the sixth head coach in the program's 19-year history.

Vanderspiegel joins VCU after two seasons as the head coach at Georgia Southern, where she guided the Eagles to their first Southern Conference Tournament title and NCAA appearance last year.

"After a brief but exhaustive national search, Lindsey was the clear choice as the best fit here at VCU," McLaughlin said. "She is a proven winner, both as a player and a coach. We are extremely excited about the future of our women's soccer program with Lindsey leading us to our goal of winning championships."
