Stony Brook to CAA
I wonder if the BSC will put a little pressure on the Camels to join the BSC in football now that SB is leaving. I believe this will affect the Big South automatic bid for the FCS playoffs unless another school replaces SB. i could be wrong.

RE: Stony Brook to CAA
SBU's departure after this season still leaves the Big South with the necessary 6 teams for the auto bid to the playoffs, but two of those remaining (Coastal and Liberty) have publicly stated they have other aspirations.

VMI
Liberty
Gardner-Webb
Presbyterian
Coastal Carolina
Charleston Southern

The Big South definitely needs to expand football membership for safety in numbers after 2012. I'd love to know how hard the BSC is pushing CU to add scholarships and how much consideration CU is giving it.

In addition to the scholarship issue, the next thing for Campbell fans to watch for is if the College of Charleston goes to the CAA and if other SoCon schools follow them (Davidson?, Furman?, Elon?). Then, will the SoCon poach the Big South for replacements - whether it is for football or non-football members. (If for non-football, any chance CU would be considered?)

I dont know that the SOCON would want us, but im sure Roller(coming from Samford in the SOCON) would entertain that option. I have nothing against the Big South at all and was thrilled when we moved back, but I think we need to keep moving up. if its offered anyway. If not just be the best we can be in the BSC.

RE: Stony Brook to CAA
This might be a horrible idea, but consider....

A hybrid Big South Conference of schollies and non-schollies...

Current BSC football members VMI, Liberty, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, Coastal Carolina, and Charleston Southern PLUS non-schollies Davidson, Campbell, and Jacksonville.

Hope that Liberty and Coastal get invited to their greener pastures, bring in new non-schollies Mercer and Stetson, and you have a great group of nine...

VMI
Gardner-Webb
Davidson
Campbell
Presbyterian
Charleston Southern
Mercer
Jacksonville
Stetson

Would a hybrid league like this work? Is it fair? Sagarin's rankings from last year....

193 Jacksonville
196 Presbyterian
216 Campbell
221 Gardner-Webb
234 VMI
237 Charleston Southern
243 Davidson
??? Mercer
??? Stetson
