Albany and Stony Brook to join CAA football in 2013
[Image: albany-stonybrook1-300x210.png]

Stony Brook University will leave the Big South Conference in football after the 2012 season and join the Colonial Athletic Association, according to two people familiar with the move.

Albany, Stony Brook’s longtime rival in the America East Conference for all other sports, also is headed to the CAA for football, the sources confirmed.

Schools need 75 percent of the CAA football membership to approve admission. A source said Stony Brook and Albany already have been confirmed.

A similar article mentioned College of Charleston & Davidson for hoops. I wonder if that is still an option? This is a good move for Albany & Stony Brook's f/b programs.

It is now official. 04-cheers

With these additions, the CAA has plugged up the football holes in the Northeast created by the dropping of football by Northeastern & Hofstra and Rhode Island leaving for the Northeast Conference. At least Maine and New Hampshire have some close rivals.

Maybe they should be full members of the CAA.

Now that George Mason is leaving, you might be able to get Albany in as a full member. Stonybrook won't be able to get past Hofstra, unless they get an A-10 invite as well.

I think either Robert Morris or Central Connecticut from the NEC would be good additions, bringing both football & basketball to the CAA.
