RE: QB Commit
He's basically trying to hold a spot with NIU, but wants to see if something better comes along.

RE: QB Commit
I know what a soft commitment is, the way it was written made it sound like an official term for something else. Lets not celebrate or bother discussing a soft commit, he may still choose to ride the pine at Michigan State...

RE: QB Commit
This kid is still hoping for an offer from Minnesota or another school. I want recruits here that want to play for us. I would hope we respond to his "soft commit" by pulling our offer.

RE: QB Commit
i don't think a lot of great playears really "want to play for us" until they realize it is amongst their better offers.....that doesn't bother me....however, I am sure DD is too smart to get played by this or any kid.

That's a good point. What I don't like about his "soft commit" is how early it is in the recruiting process. That's worse than useless to us. It's a lot different when a kid doesn't get other offers and verbals to us close to Signing Day.

Quote:The Huskies return junior quarterback Jordan Lynch — who was impressive in a reserve role last season — this fall and weren’t looking to recruit a quarterback in this year’s class, but liked what they saw in Kimble and didn’t want to miss out on the Jerseyville native. NIU offered Kimble a gray shirt season, which means he won’t enroll and join the program until January 2013 and will be a freshman for the 2014 season.

Kimble is our first 2014 commit. He is a greysirt who will enroll in Jan., 2014. If you read the article about him, posted by snoopy, you will see he is a solid commit and is very excited about the program. I say welcome aboard!

Kimble enrolls in January of 2013 according to the article. Maybe he's graduating from H.S. early; he is an outstanding student.
As far as whether he's a solid commit, let's just say we're hearing two different stories on that.

For Kimble to enroll and be a qualified greyshirt the time frame would have to be 2014, I believe. Rather confusing but the article has confused the year, IMHO. On another note, I am disappointed after re-reading this entire thread. The hostility towards this new recruit by usually well respected posters has caused me some discomfort. I hope Mitch and his parents do not follow this forum. I have noticed this tone in the last couple of years.

Greyshirt rules are a little confusing, but, to me, it makes more sense that he would be enrolling at NIU in January of 2013. If he enrolls as a greyshirt, he can't be on scholarship, can't be a full-time student and can't practice or condition with the team. If were to wait to enroll in January of 2014, he couldn't be on scholarship, couldn't have any contact with the football team and couldn't be a full-time student until the fall of 2014. That means he'd have to enroll at a community college for the fall of 2013 and then could only be a part-time student at NIU for the spring of 2014. Unlikely for an athlete that's very good academically.
Regarding his "commit" status, it's well-known that Kimble's first choice is Minnesota. He's been to camp there and made it plain he'd like to play there. I can't help wondering if HWSNBN and his staff have told Kimble they don't have a scholarship to give him, but will wait and see how Kimble's senior year goes at Jerseyville.

RE: QB Commit
Go here for another explanation of Greyshirt rules. According to this quote from the article, a recruit could not use the Yordon Center as long as he's a greyshirt. "They can not practice or condition with the team. They can not be given any advantage not extended to the normal student body."

Our only hesitation is if he said that this is a soft verbal. I understand that he wants to keep his options open but then he shouldn't commit to us just to go to some big 6 school that shows some last min interest.
I still like the nick name Mitchy the Kid.
