Hard to compete against pro players at college level. Just saying. SEC - If you aren't cheating, you aren't trying.

This could easily be a rogue agent with an agenda against Saban. I'd be interested in taking a look at this guy's background...

It can't be, auburn is paying 6 figures but bama is getting better overall talent because the head coach is such a great mentor and they really like that elephant on the logo.

Has anyone ever wondered why it is that the SEC is the hardest conference in america, yet, every year they have an undefeated conference member, come NCG?

Shula was buying them, why would bama suddenly stop?
If you saw the 30 for 30 show on Marcus Dupree, the same "reverand" that was featured in that story got
involved in bama recruitment of 2 players from south mississippi back in 05. Im sure money went other places besides the church collection place

RE: $EC Football - Saban paying players?
Been saying it for years. If the NCAA really wanted to clean up college football, they should start in the SEC. They won't.

Whether it's true or not, in this specific case, is irrelevant. They may not be cheating in this fashion, but they are cheating somehow. Everyone is.

RE: $EC Football - Saban paying players?
They may very well cheat, but the biggest reason the SEC is so dang good is the supply of massive, fast offensive and defensive lineman; particularly the later in the southeast. If they are playing games, it is probably more so on the academic side than on the pay for play side. But hey, this happens everywhere at just about every level.

ole miss and miss state have the church thing to a science. church donations cant be traced. write a big check to the local church, the church gets a new PA or roof, the kids momma gets gifted a little cash and the kid goes off to college. another tried and true technique are casino chips. untracable.

Casino chips have been around for a while.

RE: $EC Football - Saban paying players?
Speaking of untraceable "payoffs", this mode of payout was VERY popular for DECADES by the Mob (especially in NY State).

If you did a job for the Mob (from small to large), many times their payouts would be a call or message that would sound like this:

"Lucky Penny in the 6th at Belmont"

That was code to put your OWN $$$ on a horse that was GUARANTEED to win...(usually at pretty good odds) so in the end the Horse Track would be making the payout to YOU for the job you did for the Mob...which obviously didn't leave any $$$$ trail back to the Mob itself.

Those that were connected said just 1 or 2 races a week (out of hundreds or thousands with other tracks included) were selected for this purpose..and some think it still goes on today.

RE: $EC Football - Saban paying players?
First, I hate Alabama and Saban...but

There doesn't seem to be anything here other than idle speculation.

The SEC blows the Big East away. They spend more money on their programs, they are in the big recruiting hotbed for football and they have more fans and can provide more exposure to their players than the Big East. They have better facilities. It isn't about paying players.. Its about location, stadiums, coaches, fanbases, media exposure, etc.

Besides, the last Big East team that achieved any modicum of success on the national stage, Miami, has had its own problems.

The NCAA does investigate and issue serious sanctions against SEC teams, including devastating sanctions against Alabama 10 years ago and Auburn and Tennessee. So its not like they're getting a free ride.

If you'd like to complain about conferences with a serious lack of institutional control, might I suggest you take a gander over at the B1G and Penn State.

By the way, the SEC helped out the Big East in the negotiations over the new National Championship format. The B1G and Pac12 wanted to create a fixed four team playoff from the SEC, B1G, PAC12 and Big XII, thus locking you and the ACC (and everyone else) from National Championship consideration.

SEC haters from the Big East might do well to remember that your mortal enemy is the B1G and PAC12, who want to jettison you guys to a new FCS. And the ACC who still has potential designs on Uconn and Rutgers. The SEC's recent dominance of the BCS game, which has to end at some point, has been much more devastating to the B1G, the Big XII, and the ACC than it really has for the Big East.

RE: $EC Football - Saban paying players?
The SEC has perfected paying players and not getting caught. The aforementioned church donations, casino chips, and the hiring of friends and relatives at inflated prices. For example, Cecil Newton's trucking company expanded right after his kid signed with Auburn. And that was in addition to his church magically coming up to code. I know firsthand of a former player that received $500 handshakes after good games.

Yes, they have the most fans, the most money, and the best facilities, and yes, they cheat.

SEC = Sure, Everyone Cheats

They cheat very, very well. It is well known around here. Everyone knows someone that knows something first hand. It just doesn't matter.
