UTSA bowl eligible this year? (Link)
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball...go-bowling

The big winner in the crisis? Not only South Alabama, but Texas-San Antonio, Texas State and UMass -- officially the four newest members of the Football Bowl Subdivision, but with asterisks. The four are in the second year of the two-year reclassification process from FCS (formerly Division I-AA) to FBS. But they would be bowl eligible this season under one of the contingencies to be discussed Thursday by the NCAA Board of Directors.
It's a coincidence the board had already scheduled that meeting to discuss future bowl eligibility before the UCF penalties.

Among the possibilities the board will consider:

--Allowing a 6-6 team bowl eligibility with a win over an FCS team (Division I-AA) that does not meet scholarship/financial requirements. FBS teams can count one FCS opponent toward bowl eligibility (six wins), but only if that opponent sponsors an average of 90 percent of the 63 scholarships allowed in FCS (56.7 scholarships).

--Allowing in a 6-6 team that had beaten two FCS teams.

--Allowing in a 6-7 team that had lost its seventh game in a conference championship game.

--Allowing in a 6-7 team that played 13 regular-season games.

--Allowing 5-7 teams ranked by APR.

--Allow in a team that is reclassifying.

Yea, but UTSA's schedule is not exactly set up for you guys to get 6 FBS wins. You only play 8 FBS games, so you'd have to win 6 of them to be eligible.

So you are saying that it can't be done? From my understanding is that we have to beat one FCS team and 5 FBS teams. We are in a weak WAC conference, so anything can be possible

This would be awesome. But I'm not sure we could get 5 FBS wins this season, even in a weak WAC. Stranger things have happen though. If you told someone 2 years ago that UTSA would be in C-USA next year, they would straight up laugh in your face..

Very true bossman. Now I am wondering if South Alabama and Texas State count as an FBS win, and also Georgia State

I don't think they would count as FBS wins but I could be wrong. Do we count as am FBS win for the teams we play? If so, then those teams should count as a win for us, right? Hell, I'm just happy its football season again!

Where were you guys for the infamous bowl counter debate?

With the rules the way they are now, we DO NOT count as an FBS win in 2012, but we will start counting in 2013.

I think the same holds true for txst, USA, and UMass.

I've had one too many beers since that thread. Thanks for clarifying that.

The NCAA approved transitional teams with 6 wins to become bowl eligible. I assume this would mean UTSA would need 5 FBS and 1 FCS win, but this is not clear.

This is the clearest summary of the eligibility changes that I've seen. Some sources are making it too complicated. Good link.
