Southern Miss-Louisville 1989
Southern Miss is celebrating our 100th year of football this year, and the Athletic Department has developed a website to celebrate. Each week, one of the top 15 games in Southern Miss history is unveiled. This week #12 is the 1989 vs. Louisville known in Southern Miss lore as the "Miracle of Louisville" Some pretty good highlights of the game. You might recognize the Southern Miss starting QB.

I'll remember it myself. It was one of 2005's most exciting games, and most of the nation missed it...

Don't forget to mention Louisville wants to join WVU in the Big XII. I'd be willing to bet USM wouldn't be opposed to the idea either...

EPIC -- and now that I've had years to digest, that one was better than the '92 Peach Bowl.

Sad thing is, two weeks after that epic win will probably be one of the games in USM's greatest moments list.

The first "on campus" game I saw as an ECU student was the '86 classic between ECU and West Virginia.

Wrong team won, but it was a great game to see live.

RE: Southern Miss-Louisville 1989
I remember the very first ECU-WVU game. It was in Greenville on Nov. 7, 1970, and WVU won 28-14. WVU had a promising season that year, until consecutive losses to Duke and Pitt dropped the Mountaineers from the polls...

WVU was also playing the Pirates after another in a long series of consecutive losses to Penn State, and really needed the win...

WVU played the Pirates the following season in Morgantown, winning 44-21, and the 2 teams didn't play again until a decade passed...
