here is what the other poster refers:
"Penn State will pay a $60 million fine, is banned from postseason play including bowl games for four years and will vacate its 112 wins from 1998-2011. The team also will lose 10 initial scholarships — given to first-year NCAA athletes — for four years beginning in 2013-14 and will drop its total number of scholarships from 85 to 65 for four years beginning in 2014-15. The university was put on five years' probation."
Assume that PSU had 85 players on scholarship yesterday.
It would take a while for attrition for the number to decrease to 65.
Remember PSU can give 15 new LOI scholarships per year.
PSU will have graduations and transfers each year suggesting maybe 25 might leave the program each of the first couple years and 15 enter the program on scholarship each year.
This will naturally bring down the scholarship count from 85 --> 65.
BTW, PSU should be a real world, lab exercise in 'what if' thinking.
Will PSU's FB program be described as "last one out, turn off the lights" as defections mount? (the idea that once defections start the snowball effect begins and more and more defect).
Or the 'domino theory' - the '12 recruiting class starts to fall, then some returning players transfers, then the '13 recruiting class has recruits decommit, etc.
